Questions about Martial Arts

I am very interestd in learning and using martial arts within SL not simply to "do combat" but mainly as a charecter backgorund developer (i enjoy having role-play and character backgorund aspects to my SL experience), i am sure i have seen somewhere that there are "tournaments" held in SL and that there are "leagues" for this style of sim.
My main questions therefore are:

1) Can martial arts styles actualy be used within SL or are they simple window dressing.

2) Where can info and advice be found about such events and leagues.

i don't know what's actually out there so maybe someone else could be more helpful there.

but how it works in sl, martial arts aren't built into anything. you can have weapons (which only work in certain damage-enabled areas), you can have custom animations, and you can build attachments for the avatars that can be scripted. so combining all that, yes it's possible, though it would probably only work against someone else "wearing" the same system and not as a general showdown-in-the-alley type thing with a stranger.

Would be cool to get some sort of matrix bullet time animations too, although with SL lag i suppose bullet time is already built in.

Maybe this is what i have seen screen shots of two people running some sort of animations each. Im sure there are some fighting leagues as well being run.hmmm more digging around
