Okay, I know SL has golf, and I love fishing in-world, too. I know there's the SLB boxing (my in-world uncle used to wear their belt!), and I've seen a couple football (soccer) fields...

But are there any other sports out there?

My in-world brother was looking for little league, but I don't know of any baseball at all. No American football, as far as i know either. I'd also love some fencing and archery (I did some archery once, many months ago, with the old Kid Scouts group, an loved it).

So what sporting events and actions exist in this world of ours? Where can I find them?

Mari

There was is a very active hockey league.

http://www.secondlifehockey.com

Great bunch of people and quite well organized. Great uniforms!

I developed a SLoccer sport, which was great fun to play, because it really used SL physics and the AVs interacted with the "ball" in a more RL way. (Plus, it is hysterical to watch a bunch of SLers running around.) We started to develop leagues but the scripts got borked around the time the vehicle scripts got screwed up. (If any scripter out there wants to help me bring it back to life, Please contact me.)

There are scuba and sailing groups, too!

...and skydiving.

Just go to Search... and type in what you are looking for.

I've seen a number of archery ranges; try searching slx to find one for sale. Actually, this reminds me I was thinking of buying an archery setup to put on my land. We have a bunch of unused space at the north end, and it would certainly fit the outdoors theme. Hm...

As for American football, I was thinking of making an animated football for passing around. Probably wouldn't get around to that for another month though.

Oh yes - I forgot skydiving. Hang gliding on Commonwealth Island, and skiing, BMX, an surfing in Weather.

Any other team sports out there?

Car racing is a sport right? Try checking the motorati sims.

Giant snails, oh my!

Giant snail racing! This is a "sport" which could only exist in SL, obviously.

Great fun and hilarity. Run by RacerX Gullwing every Saturday in the Montmarte sim (if my memory is correct, which it frequently isn't).

Check it out.

There's also bowling (in Tableau, for example, but I'm sure there are other ones), basketball in Tu Amor, sailing...

I've seen olympic swimming pools and running tracks, too (in Tu Amor). Anybody knows whether these are functional?

Those were: I dun tink they're there anymore - They were moved to Capelli Island, an seemed to have lost a lot of their functionality in the process. The track usedta have working gates, an there were lap counters on the pool" Part of HardKnock Elementary, and were used for gym class an school competitions.

Archery, definitely. The first sim I lived in had an archery range, and the "summer camp bow" and "sticky target" for it was free, while someone was selling nicer looking bows. That sim no longer exists, and I don't recall who was selling the nicer bows. I still have a bow and a target. Just haven't bothered to set them up for a while.

The one problem I had with the archery was that there wasn't that much to it. Wear the bow, pick up an arrow, click the mouse on the target while in mouselook, and the arrow generally went where you clicked. No real control over accuracy. Looked kind of cool though, when several people were shooting arrows at the targets. And they were completely harmless. You could ONLY shoot the targets!

Cubey Terra and several other vendors sell skydiving gear.

I've got a free Linden snow board, that they were giving away at a ski resort build.

Sailing

The sailing community in SL is comparatively small (250 SLSF registered users) but VERY active. Learn to Sail lessons are held every Sunday in Hollywood and races are regularly held several times a week in both Hollywood and Nantucket.

Most popular boat is the Flying Tako, powered by scripts by Kanker Greenacre that react to actual winds, quite realistic and lots of fun. Jacqueline Trudeau also has several larger sailboats also using Kanker’s scripts and just introduced a catamaran that is very cool.
