an ownership/group/deed question

hiya,

i own a parcel of land and want to allow my sl wife to landmark it as her home, etc. do i need to start a group with just the two of us in it and deed the land to the group, and then she will be able to do that? is there more to it than that? i have been looking for answers in the knowledge base and in the forums and haven't had any luck finding any.

There are a couple of different things here.

Landmarking is something you can control on your land settings, if you enable it, anyone can create a landmark.

Setting "home" requires either land ownership or membership in a group associated with the land. You don't need to deed the land to the group, but it does need to be set to the group in the About Land tab.

This is an often-asked question here, and I asked too.

No, Isablan, "Setting" land to group not enough, no matter what help file say. It SL glitch. Believe me, I've been down that road numerous times.

Seems there has been a bug in the SL client that prevents ppl from "Set Home To Here" on land even if grouped, unless deeded to group.

Here is a work-around that worked for me.

IMPORTANT: Don't deed entire plot to group.

Create a group for you and your sl wife. Make sure it active for you both.

1. Have your sl wife stand where she want's to make home.

2. Enter Edit Terrain from pie menu when u right-click land.

3. Choose "Select Land" button.

4. Left-button drag to highlight land she standing on.

5. Choose "Subdivide."

6. Ask your wife to stand still so you can find little plot.

7. Click subdivided little plot, and select "Deed to group"

8. Also Check "Make Contribution"

Once deeded, she should be able to "Set Home To Here" if she standing on little parcel. Once done, she can step aside.

9. Highlight little plot, and buy from group for $0.

10. Again, using "Edit Terrain/Select Land" draw selection across newly subdivided and into main parcel holdings.

11. Select "Join"

Ba-da-bing. SL Wife now has home and can ctrl+shift+H there. Also if she ever get kicked home or other strangeness happen with SL glitch, this is where she will appear.

I think I have all this correct. It worked for me.

According to the bug release notes just posted for the next SL update, the Group/Home bug has been fixed.
