Has anyone noticed any scripted objects that have been broken since the update on the 25th?
We have a wonderful dolphin that was built by Starax Statosky, and he's been one of my very favorite features of our land for months now ... hanging out in the cove in front of our house, lazily swimming and periodically jumping out of the water to land with a splash. When we went home for the first time after the update, he was GONE!
I turned on wireframe to look around and there he was, stuck way underground, barely moving. I turned off water and ground, took him back and tried to re-rez him, and now instread of his usual behavior he immediately sinks like a stone, continues to sink until he's well under the ground, then just lies there and twitches. (It's pretty sad, actually.)
I fear that the dolphin's banjaxed for good now, since I don't think the Powers That Be are going to care too much about it. I filed a bug report anyway, but I'm kinda resigned that it'll be sucked into a black hole, never to be seen again. Have any of you had similar problems with any of your objects?
I know, I know ... I sound like an eejit and it's just a scripted object, but I was actually fond of the little guy, and I'm going to miss him.

Hey Sean, I don't have the dolphin so I can't check for sure, but if it used any sort of physics there's a good chance it fell victim to a few new bugs introduced in the latest version. LL is aware of them but please bug report it as clearly as you can in case there's more that were introduced that they didn't catch yet. Hold onto him, hopefully next release he'll be back to his old tricks

Given the swimming, leaping and splashing I'm sure he must use some kind of physics (I can't look at the script, unfortunately). That's reassuring though, Cory ... thanks!

Same thing is affecting the killer whales that he makes as well. I found ours lying listlessly on the bottom of the bay after this most recent update.
At first I thought it was some kind of griefer attack on it, but upon checking other parcels that I know to have the whales, like Extreme, theirs was doing the same too; just moving listlessly on the bottom.
I hope they can be fixed, as our killer whale provided a lot of atmosphere to our small island resort.
Does Starax even play SL anymore? I was of the thinking that he got disenchanted with the Lindens after they broke his wand with an update and departed SL...

As far as I know, he hasn't returned. Charlton, if you haven't already, please do file a bug report. Let's try to help keep the Lindens aware of what's broken.

Latest update appears to have screwed up our dolphins
10-27-2006 18:49
My wife and I have a nice corner island residence and thought the place would be set perfectly with the final touch of a dolphin - but we got him a mate to play with, a nice sight to look at when dancing on the deck as sun sets and they leap around you, but alas we have just noticed today the same symptoms reported whereby the dolphins are acting like a lead weight and sinking through to the sand The shame of it is the creator 'Starax' looks like he is 'no more' - as I cant find him in people search. so I suppose any support has gone out of the window for future problems (assuming this problem is fixed). To add insult to injury we have a pair of pegasus as well which may be affected. So come on Lindens, help us out or else we will start a 'Lindens stop screwing with wildlife' campaign! and you don't want that. ...Bug report being filed for the record.

I too found my whale submerged below the sand. 8-(
What you can do in the meantime is rez your cetacean on land then move him/her to the water. This will turn off the jumping and swimming about, but at least they will still be visible.

The latest update has fixed 'sea creatures sinking' syndrome
11-01-2006 16:54
Just to let peeps know that the patch released today has fixed the bug that sunk dolphins/whales and I'm happy to report they are back frolicking away - jumping in the air. Thanks Lindens for at least fixing that bug (despite you guys breaking it in the first place)

http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2006/10/starax_speaks.html#moreThose who met Starax Statosky and saw the wonders he made, loved him. Especially those who held the wand he crafted in their hands, marveling at its ability to summon things like robed worshippers and falling cows from thin air with a single command. (He sold that device for thousands of Linden Dollars, but no one considered that price too high.) So when Starax's account unexpectedly dematerialized a few months ago-- taking his wand with him-- it caused not a little consternation, and quite a lot of wild speculation (as here, or here). etc

I have a Few of the Freebie Statues he gave away, and bought several of his non animated Animals, i agree, the Man IS an Artist. Whenever i get to thinking, "Hey, I'm a Pretty damn good Builder" I bring out the Fallen Angel sculpture, and that sets my feet Firmly back on the ground. I'm not bad, but i have a LONG way to go before i'm ever that Good.
We Miss you Starax.
Angel.
