What was that "virtual world" 3D thingy?

There's a virtual world 3D thing that I have tried that I can't remember the name of.

It was sort of like Proton Media.

It had some stores in it, trying to sell real world goods, among other things.l

It had a sort of railway station looking place with gateways to the various other places. You walked to the portals, then paused, and came out in the next scene.

In the "railway station" looking place there were instructional videos that came on automatically went you got close enough.

It wasn't as developed as Second Life or There, still in early development.

It's been in the past few years.

It did not in your browser.

Memory is so weird. I can't recall the name of the thing, but I'm pretty sure the url for the forums started with "social dot something.com" as opposed to the more common "forums.something.com".

I'm thinking the name was vaguely similar to the academic virtual world blog terranova.com. Not that the thing I'm thinking of was connected with terronova, just something about the sound of the name might have been similar.

Nothing ordinary like Kaneva or Twinity or Vivaty, I presume. I can't remember the name of several - one was something like "Big Park."

Arrrgh - now I'm on a quest to find the "park" place. Curses!

The thing I was thinking of was ProtoTerra. It looks pretty dormant in it's forum.

You may be thinking of VastPark.

Ever try GoGoFrog?

Vivaty is like Exit Reality and 3D Explorer, I think. And maybe like FriendsHangOut.

Then there's also OnVerse.

For places with inworld building tools, somewhat like SL, there's Hipihi and the game/vw hybrid uWorld. uWorld has user created objects, built inworld, and has scripting for the objects. It's a shame there's no English version, and nowhere near as much help for non-Chinese-speakers as Hipihi has. The only thing I can do in uWorld is walk around. It keeps getting updated. There's some traffic in it's forum.

The cool 3D thing, which I think people here might like, but which is not a virtual world, is a game with an inworld editor, called Atmosphir, which is soon to release a major new version called Stratosphir. New version is due to be out in a few weeks. You build 3D games. The upcoming version is supposed to have multi-user ability, and may run in a browser. It's not competition for virtual worlds precisely, but some folks here might like it. I hope it doesn't flop.

I was looking for VastPark and found it by retracing my steps through Evolver. They had a list of compatible platforms:
Torque * FaceFx * Activeworlds * 3DXplorer * Cobalt * Exit Reality * Unity * VastPark * Worldviz

Never tried GoGoFrog :-D Any good? I feel like I don't have enough time for SL, so any other place gets the twenty minute walk-through (except Just Leap In, which is a browser-based place that I am fond of).

GoGoFrog is worth the twenty minute walkthrough.
