Can I use SL screenshot for a web page?

I bet this has been asked... I wanted to take a snapshot of a street scene and use it as a background for a web page on my portfolio site. I would use some javascript to animate it a bit. In any case, are there any copyright issues to doing that?
Thanks much, Dakkar

I can't see why not.
But I'll bet a lot of people can come up with plenty of reasons why you can't. Valid or not.
Sl is a game (so to speak) It's your screen. Capture whatever you want.

In the real world, if it's a public space/place, you are (or were) free to take pictures of anything or anyone. Laws have changed in most western countries because of some governments' agendas making it illegal to even take pictures of your kids at the beach.
You can't take sightseeing pictures of most places anymore either. Or they'll come an' getchya!

If a public image included clearly identifiable people, you could not use their image for commercial purposes unless you get a clearance, signed, from the person in that image.

I ignore the laws and still take pictures of whatever I want.
me/ holds forward his arms, wrists together facing up and says "Take me away and lock me up in Gitmo"!

What I've said is unclear, incomplete and completely wrong.

It's an interesting question but considering how many people post pictures on flickr, snapzilla and their own websites it shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure there are questionable uses of said images but I don't know of any off the top of my head.

Nothing fancy

Really I want nothing fancy and no one in it.
I'm looking for a city street scene with some traffic signs, perhaps stop lights.
Then I can use image replacement to make the messages I want.
It is true that Sl is pretty dynamic. WEll, I'm going to go ahead and I doubt anyone is going to see the site anyway.
Thanks

This article might be of interest to you where there may be some grey untested legal areas due to the fact that users retain the underlying intellectual property rights to their SL creations:
http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2009/04/eff-and-sl.html

I also recall reading on some wiki page about photography or machinima where Torley Linden alludes to copyright.

Oh found it: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Movie_help

IMPORTANT! Commercial usage

If your film is for commercial gain, you need to email Linden Lab Licensing so we're cool with it. We need to know:

1. What your film's about?
2. Do you own rights to content featured in the film? If not, do you have permission from the creators?
3. Link to your video so we can watch it?
4. Your real-life contact info?

I very much doubt you have anything to worry about but it's an interesting question!

It still looks like not a problem

It's won't be for commercial use in any case. I hope I don't trip on the concrete. Really, I doubt anyone will ever know or care... Though if a potential employer asks about rights, I'm going to say I ahave the right to use it. I could put a link to the page when it's done. It should be interesting.
I hadn't thought about SL movies, but that could have potential. I put a video of my friend catching an 11.5 pound lobster at www.diver.net/seahunt/vids.htm
Thanks All
