I am wondering if it is worth it to wait out a server class upgrade on some prestine location wise but laggy old land that I own in an older sim. I believe it is class 4 mainland but it might even be class 3.
I suppose it will be a looooong wait if it is class 4...

My first 2004 estate sim was a class 2 and I had to pay for a new one to get a class 3 in 2005. Earlier this year I paid to upgrade from a class 3 to a class 5, and the performance is much worse on my class 5 than it was on the old class 3. I think it is because I shared with one other sim on my class 3 and probably share with many sims on this class 5, plus this class 5 server must be routed via some hole in the wall path.
We have another class 4 sim that has much better performance than the class 5 ones.

I have, and have had many parcels, on server 3, 4 and 5 land, and in my experiences, time and again, in every instance the class 5's have always outperformed the 3's and 4's by quite a margin. I have only ever owned mainland. Anyway, my hopes with this thread is to learn how long I might expect to wait before a particular server 3 or 4 parcel that I own, which in my opinion might be the single best piece of mainland I've ever seen in SL, will be upgraded to a server 5 (or 6 perhaps). How long have folks with server 1-2 mainland had to wait before thier sims were upgraded, assuming they were upgraded. MAINLAND. Of course, things are very different with Private Islands where you can just pay for an upgrade.

My home sim (Lappet) was originally on a class 2 server, and was upgraded to a class 4 when all the class 2 servers were retired. I haven't heard of any official retirement program for the class 3 servers yet; when that happens, I expect that all sims running on them would be moved to new class 5 servers, or some future class. I imagine that LL is currently evaluating quad-core systems for a future class 6 that would run 8 sims per server.
