OK, I can't seem to get this voice chat working right. I have talked in it but to be honest it doesn't work all the time so maybe it's something I'm not doing or I'm doing wrong.

In the prefrences box for "Voice Chat" it has enabled voice chat which I have checked off, so this is fine.

Then it has for you to talk by using "Avater" or "Camera". What exactly does this mean? And which would be the better one to use?

Then it has "Start viewer in push to talk mode" and "Use push-to-talk in toggle mode." Again, what are these for and which would be best to use?

Then: Push-to-talk-trigger "Set Key" or "Middle Mouse Button" THis would be the way to use talk? Which would be easier to use?

Privacy Options: I know this means getting calls from friends.

Then: "Device Settings" & "Run Voice Setup Wizard". Do you have to run this wizard and run the settings?

I don't want to touch it yet until I can get some help cause I don't want to mess it up. I'm having enough problems as it is. PLus, this system Linden put it is terrible to begin with so that's a double negative right there.

I hope one or a few can go thru' this list to help me get this going. Might even become a sticky for others who also seek help with one or all of the questions above.

Doubtful. Those of us that utilize it have had one issue or another from time to time such as the server going funky due to issues on LL's side. So long as you're certain you're on a voice activated sim and get the "connected" confirmation in chat history, see yourself in the voice chat list, and see the little dot above your head that reacts when you press and hold down the talk button you're golden.

Then it has for you to talk by using "Avater" or "Camera". What exactly does this mean? And which would be the better one to use?

Basically it means which base perspective you'd rather "hear" people talking from. Camera position, meaning anywhere your viewer is facing (ie what you see on screen). Whereas avatar means you'll be hearing from your ava's perspective. Depending on how you face is how well and how you hear. I'm not really fond of either, but if I want to look at something else and still hear everything going on around me I keep it set to Avatar.

Start viewer in push to talk mode is just that. You have to physically move the mouse to the "talk" button, depress it, and hold it to speak. Unchecking that and checking to use push to talk in toggle mode means you've set a particular keyboard key or mouse button to be pressed that does the same thing, only it's a key press that does it all instead of having to physically move the mouse.

Then: Push-to-talk-trigger "Set Key" or "Middle Mouse Button" THis would be the way to use talk? Which would be easier to use?

The push to talk trigger is the key pressed that acts like a shortcut instead of having to use the mouse for the same action. Hitting set key allows for any key on your keyboard to be the key needed to be hit and depressed to talk .....or you have the option of keeping this same action set as the middle mouse button. When you hit the button to set key it will ask which key to use. Hitting the key will record it into the one to be used.

All in all it's up to you whether you want to keep the viewer running in it's standard start mode and push the button manually with the mouse, or utilize this function as a shortcut. I think it's easier with the mouse, only for the sake of I won't be accidently typing something into chat.

Then: "Device Settings" & "Run Voice Setup Wizard". Do you have to run this wizard and run the settings?

Your device settings will show what device is connected for use with voice. In this case your microphone and speakers. You can select default or specify if it has a pulldown option which program/driver will run either the mic or speakers. The run voice setup wizard is really the same thing as picking the options from the voice tab. It is the culmination of those options plus device settings in an all in one package. So no you don't need to run both. Use whichever is easiest to change settings as necessary.
