hi ya all
advise needed!
ive been on sl since november 06, when i acquired my first land...my neighbours were nice, there was an art gallery at one side and a nightclub at the other, everything was great...but, in january i lost my internet connection due to isp sabotage and i could not get onto SL, after about a month i came back and went straight to my land where i found i couldnt get to my land because of a no fly zone on 3 sides (my landing co ordinates were right on the edge of my land)...my neighbours had all changed...and the land on two sides was open build...everyone who visited knocked up an object and it looked like a sandbox...since i got back to SL one side of the land has been sold and theres another nightclub there (which is a bonus at least!)....
my problem is that because people are building on this 'open land' some of the objects are over my land sticking through my walls...and i cant return them as they hover just above ground level or like today...i logged in and theres a giant box right on the corner of my land...planted by a new member Zackary Rodenberger who i think is 'zany development' in disguise!!
i have my settings changed to auto return others items after 1 minute...but thats not working...the objects wont move!! i have sent messages (nice ones) to the object owners and the land owners (who now own big chunks of land around me) but these have fallen on deaf ears...i now think that my neighbours 'zany developments' are trying to force me out!! is there anything i can do...is there anyone 'official' here who can speak to my neighbours about their behaviour? or should i just sell my land and move?

One idea, wait another month and things will probably change again.

You are supposed to be able to use 100% of your land and if another is interfering with that, then you do have the right to abuse report it ;) I'd say, IM the object owners, give them a week to respond and if they fail to, or are abusive in their response, abuse report it.

You may still want to consider selling, if this becomes a constant problem, though. Some things just aren't worth the headache.

I agree with the above posters.

In addition to that, you could move your house up into the sky so you won't have to look at any ugly objects protruding over your borders.

...and in a month, it will probably all change anyways.

thanks for that...i dont really want to sell because as it stands at the moment i probably wont get a fair price and the only buyer would probably be my bad neighbour...why should i give them the satisfaction! lol
i have sent the object owners and the land owners messages...a few weeks ago...but its only getting worse...i wouldnt mind...but my messages were nice and friendly!
i would have thought that the land boundary went all the way up into the sky...to prevent overhanging objects...but it obviously doesnt!
maybe ill move upwards! lol
i will send them another message...then send abuse...! lol ;)
thanks again

Make a Giant sign and put it on your property border with said neighbor

something like "Building classes availble at (whereever and whatever time)

make sure its at least 10x10 meters.

For the less subtle approach make a sign that says

"Tired of ugly trash all over Second Life? - sign the Mainland zoning petition!"

-
it might be your neighbor wants you to buy his land and is forcing you to make an offer?

theres also too much mutal admiration society in Second Life, people who tell each other their bad builds look good.

I highly suggest building up in the sky, get a 20x20x.1 megaprim and send it up about 250m or so and build away or plunk down a house of your choice with a fence around the prim (so you dont fall off) then set your home position right inside or outside the front door.

Sunsets and sunrises are beautiful just above the clouds, and the added benefit is people dont barge onto your prop, nor do you have to look at what the neighbor built today. Its incredibly peaceful up there and lends an air of exclusivity, not to mention reduced lag. You can also put down a nice blended disk or script a tree or bush (to be discreet) as a tp port so you can get up and down to go venturing to the nearby locales at will.

Oh and one more thing, as far as I have been able to determine, unless the crosshair of the prim is on your side, its still legally on their side and wont get returned, which can be HUGELY annoying if its a multiple linked object that is rather large since the potential overhang without legally being on your prop is so great.

hi nectere, thanks, as to sunrises etc...my land is always cloudy...foggy...just plain miserable...i get enough of that in the uk in RL! haha so maybe moving upwards would benefit.
i have noticed a drop in visitors since these new neighbours moved in, i average now at 6, it used to be 200+ with the art gallery and nightclub next door...which doesnt help...being a shopowner who has no visitors...
the recent object is a box about 2mtr square...and yes...its crosshair is just on zany's land...a quater of the box is on my land!
the only advantage i have is that i have the most beautiful island home where i can escape to! :)

thanks again

I moved up to the sky a few months back and set autoreturn on my land. I have to admit I much prefer the sky. Falling off can be a problem, but a skybox that's transparent is also a really nice alternative.

I built a box that fits a 512 and is 10 prims. IM me in world if you want it and I'll give you a copy. Just rez it on the ground and then pop it up as high as you like (within the limits set, which I think are 750m or something - but make sure you have a way to get up there, lol, found that one out the hard way). There's also a pretty good freebie house out there that will fit a 512 and has a nice porch out front attached which would give you a landing area.

Poppytat, did you know that you can turn off clounds and fog in the Debug Menu?

Would someone else pop in here with specifics? I'm not in world right now and can't remember the exact menu tree for this.

I believe the keyboard shortcut to turn off clouds is CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+minus (above your letter keys, not on the numeric pad).

I think Control + Alt + Shift + 6 shuts off fog.
