I edit my appearance and get it looking just right, quite pretty even, but when I save a go back normal view it looks very different. My face is all pointy and it looks pretty ugly. Can anyone throw me a bone on where i could be going wrong.
Thanks

For one thing, the lighting is fixed in appearance mode. Try editing appearance at midnight, SL time, and you will see the most dramatic difference. The appearance lighting tends to smooth out the harsh transitions in the polygons due to direct lighting (most notable on the face). Another reason is that some attributes are not fully baked until you exit appearance, thus uncompressed and not in the final J2C file format. They are grabbed directly off your client. That is the reason the character folder inside the client carries all those extra *.tga files for editing appearance. This is a much subtler difference, but still there. There may be other differences that I'm overlooking, but then I don't have access to LL's servers or thier code.
There is only one solution to this issue. You must always make changes to your look based on what you see outside of appearance mode, otherwise you are being fooled by differences that no one else will see.

Not in game so can't guide you to it but there's a button or two in Preferences/Graphics or Advanced Graphics that affect the avatar detail level. Did you reduce it at some point to reduce lag mebbe?
