We need a way to identify private parcels from the map view.

I was just flying about the mainland and hopping around islands to find something interesting and the tone of each parcel ranged from banlines, to 15 second security orbs, to public parks, to stores wanting business and everything in between. One parcel is begging for traffic while the other can't stand the sight of you. In order to find the places that want people you have to get through places that are trying to get rid of you.

The reason why I think a privacy identifier on the map is that it would tell you where you shouldn't go and where you should. It may even help with zoning as a store would avoid a sim that was full of private parcels and maybe slowly all the stores would clump together and all the residences would do the same.

It would be a win win situation.

I think it's a good idea. I have been frustrated for years trying to get across land where people think they have something really important and private going on that I would somehow find irresistible enough to intrude upon. The whole thing is a puzzle to me, but it's their world, their imagination.

Sure I can fly or teleport over the private areas, but it kind of destroys the illusion. Why have land at all then? Let's just go back to using the web.

Of course we're not in the habit of traipsing across people's yards in real life, though I wouldn't get all bent out of shape if people walked across mine once in a while. In real life you can tell where private land is compared to roads and so forth. But roads don't go everywhere in SL. Without zoning, some other signal might be needed. It could be something you voluntarily turn on, like the yellow land-for-sale indicators.

[By the way - I don't want anyone reading this post. People who even look at it will be put on my ignore list when I find out.]
