Preventing Object Litter On Your Sims?

Hello!

I run an island sim. It's a peaceful little place, but today, we got our first griefer.

Although we have free-build sandbox style lots (I know, asking for trouble) they have autoreturn timers installed on them so objects are cleared away. However, at one end of the island, clustered around a small lot which didn't have the right rules set on it (had full perms OK and no autoreturn) were a hundred or so plywood prims and other bits of random junk some guy had set out.

For some reason this junk was able to bypass object entry rules on nearby lots, which disallow object entry for ANY object, group or not. Also, even when it was hovering over a 5 minute autoreturning road, the objects were not autoreturning.

Is it because they were originating on a plot that had no autoreturn? How is it that these objects were disobeying autoreturns and object entry permissions on nearby lots? He was able to move his crud into nearby shops and other buildings, even. What went wrong?

Related: Are there any guides to securing an island estate against griefers that new estate owners can use?

As a builder, I've had my 'crud' wind up in some of the strangest place and those also had the no object entry set. I think it's a bug with the permission system, which if something goes fast enough, it breaks the code barrier. (Disclaimer: I am not a coder-type person, so I am not certain of the breaking of the code barrier.)

*shrugs* As for securing against litter? Only thing I can think of is the autoreturn, sadly.

As for estate guides, I'm not too familiar with those. Maybe one of the others can answer?

just use the estate tools under debug to disable and return all the objects in 1 time with the filter ;)

but yes, i have the same issue`s at times, even with no create/entry/scrips allowed

Is the prim litter all at the 0,0 coordinate?

It might all be a symptom of failed rez problems elsewhere in the region. This might also be why the objects aren't behaving as expected for auto-return.

No, in this case it was a hundred odd generic plywood prims of various types, all set out by a non-resident, and spread in a spray pattern in midair over one section of the island. We're familiar with the 0,0 rez problem; definitely not related. Clearly it's litter given he had absolutely no reason to plant all these useless "Object" prims all over the island.

I don't get why the autoreturning didn't work, though, or how the objects violated our lot rules about object entry... my only guess is that they were actually built on the incorrectly permissioned lot, and thus never had the rules apply, or something... any help here?

One question and then I'm completely outta clues. Are these items linked or not? If the 'mother prim' is on the no auto return land, right there might be your problem. But my overall suggestion is to open a JIRA or Support Portal Ticket. I've always had my stray prims when building return to me.. sometimes instantly, sometimes a few hours later.

The Prevent Object Entry option is bugged. Has been. I've reported it, but the problem is that the issue is random (or at least I can't get a decent repro on it).

I have seen that when the Object Entry is violated, that Auto-Return no longer funtions on those prims either (though regular Return still does). As a side note, this issue also changes any Physical prims effected to a NON-Physical state.

I'm sure LL is "working on the problem", but without a consistant repro, it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Report the prims and leave a few there for LL programmers to look at (if you have the prim allowance, and perhaps cover the prim in a more astetically pleasing prim). The more Bug Reports/Tickets LL gets, the more info they'll have.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Drat, I've already returned the prims. If someone else does it, I'll report it, though.

The objects weren't all linked; they were completely separate and scattered all over one section of the island. In some shops, over the road, down the road, etc.

There's a chance it wasn't griefing, but regardless, why the guy felt the need to splatter the island with a hundred useless prims and then not clean up is beyond me -- and is against our publically available policy, anyway...

Sometimes weird things happen.I rented a small store space a while back. I was careful to stay within my prim limit. But, somehow, I got an automated message that I was over. The owner and I went and counted my prims. Somehow, I had a number of "Objects" in a part of the sim that I had never been on... I felt bad for the owner, but I have no idea how they got there.

So, sometimes it's not intentional.

I've seen a case of self-replicating psychedelic changing color spheres , the guy manage to put some in the plots for sale that usually have all the allows, and then they replicated all the way through the rest of the plots with the allow everybody build but with auto-return on, replicated themselves through the borders with my plots but they didn't manage to get in my plots deeded to group and set to allow entry/build/script just for the group.
but it was funny to see them go through the borders, anyway the SIM was useless by then with all the lag. this was on mainland tho, the guy was banned 10 minutes later after I reported him.
