Hi All, Bought my piece of land, built my house, planted a few trees now time to do the garden. But the problem is no grass. My house is built on a mainland rocky hillside, nice view but now when it comes to my garden I am stumped. The onlyway I seem to change the land texture from rock to grass will be to prim it.I am correct in assuming this is the only way or do I need to make a totem pole and hire in a few indians to dance around it .

Find grass textures (not in SL , they all steal from games and artist and sell them expensive) that has alpha, place it on a thin prim and make it wave in the wind. If not that, =/ Sorry nothing you can do, could hire me to dance with totem and all, I'm cheap!

Nothing wrong with 'Prim-forming' (as opposed to terra-forming). Prim-forming is a great way to take an ugly, rocky parcel, and flatten it out to nice flat & lush green. A word of advice, however: be a good neighbor. Its usually a good idea to try and fit within the natural existing landscape as much as you can. If you're in a snow sim, and you prim-form to make it lush green, your neighbors may not appreciate the stark contrast. Hope this helps

I have a similiar situation and i am trying to work with the rocky terrian. we terraformed in a spot for a pond and stream and I am placing boulders and trees around the property. Plenty of places then for wildflowers to poke out. I'll IM you and you can come see if you want. Its a work in progress though. lol.

Terrace the land. That's how people farm on mountainsides.

You can get away from the billiard table effect (at the cost of prims) but placing grass textures on flattened spheres and layering those to create a fairly natural looking rolling landscape.
Also - eventually someday (a couple weeks? depends on how long it takes me to work through the wings 3D tutorials) "someone" will figure out they can use sculpted prims to make rough ground.

there is a freebie out there known as "Field of Dreams". It temp rezzes flowers and/or grass. It's great for the lower prim plots, and it doesn't cause a lot of sim strain.

Yes, this is what I have done. I placed 10x10 plates with a grass-textures as base on my land. On it I places serveral "Field of Dreams". The effect is very nice. Morwen.

Thanks for all your replys.I will try all your ideas to be honest and see what tends to suit best.Travis`s comment about neighbour friendly is the one I take most to heart and will try and make sure that what ever I do fits in locally.I got a nice taste of friendly neighbours last night on my visit to Nimue`s place and the ideas were still flowing between her and her neighbour when I had to take my leave.Sorry Xio the totem pole has been taking down now,but I reckon there is a big hole in the SL market for voodoo dolls!

omg, I want this Field of Dreams, please, please... I rent my parcel. It's partially grass, partially sand... which would normally be fine, but there is something strange going on with the ground cover where it is constantly shifting every few hours. I've contacted my land manager but she is stumped too.
It's very frustrating to try to landscape with flowers, putting them in the grass, only to look a few hours later and see them in sand. This thing sounds like it might be ideal for me until my problems are resolved, if they ever are.
I would greatly appreciate anyone who could send this to me or tell me where to find it.
