How do you quickly backup massive structures (composed of many prims, some inside of each other, few of which are linked) on your own land, making sure that you save the whole structure as one object in your inventory?

Select them all at once, then take them in one go.
To make sure you get them all, do this: In the Clientmenu (to get this menu if you dont have it press ctrl+alt+shift+D) there is an option called "Hide selected" under Rendering. This is super-useful to see if you get everything you want to select, because it will "dissapear" temporarily. That means you can even the very small pieces easy. Once you "de-select" them, everything shows again. I use this feature mainly to get all pieces when i want to link something, but it works for taking everything as one item into inventory as well. Then once in inventory, if the permissions are correct, you can rename it. If you cant because of permissions, you can make a folder that you can name and put it there. |

Is there a way to drag a bounding box around all the objects... rather than manually clicking through 100+ objects... some not easily clickable unless you're great with camera rotation controls?

Under Tools make sure you have
X Select Only My Objects X Select By Surrounding X Show Hidden Selection all checked (having the X in front). Then press CTRL-3 and you get the edit box with nothing selected for edit. Drag a box around what you want to select, make sure you have everything you want to pick up or copy selected then right click on it and perform the operation of choice, (Take, Take Copy, Delete (careful!!!!), etc.) You can also use this technique to move a large number of objects using the edit tools. If you say want to tweak the position of a room or house full of furniture without moving the house, set Select Only Movable Objects, make sure you set the house itself as Locked under the edit tools and drag a box as above around the objects to move. it will select only hte unlocked objects and let you reposition them as a whole. _____________________

You can only make a backup copy of the copiable parts, though, of course.
