Hi, I've been in Sl for only about 2 weeks now, and I've discovered a lot of things, and become good at making things, especially armour (IMO (:-P to you conrak)).

I spend most of my time in the Imperial compound making things, I'd like to make some more friends, so could you please drop by if you get the chance?

I've also got a few questions:

1: is there a standing army, police force etc... in sl?
2:what are greifers?
3: sometimes, when I move towards the edge of a parcel, I keep going, even though I let go of the keys. I keep going till I go off the map at worst, or till I go a certain distance. What is causing this, is it a bug, or just my P.C.?

thanks in advance :-)

I'll try to answer to the best I can, but if I am incorrect, I'm sure someone will point that out.

There are wannabes, but nothing official.
2:what are greifers?
This is loosely defined, while some think it's just anyone who's out to annoy people, some think it's only people who destroy or disturb operations of a game. To me, anyone who causes grief to anyone else (relationships aside, haha), that's a 'grief'er.

It's a common occurance when changing sims... simple explantion would be that the sim you cross over to has to 'catch' your av on that server, causing a moment of lag. If going faster than a walk (sometimes even as slow as a walk) can cause you to fall through the sim, or lag behind.

thanks in advance :-)

ETA: Suppose italic brackets don't do anything where the quote is italicized....

Hey Ajax. I see you already got an answer to the second part which is 100% correct, as was the first. To expand a little on the first question, "does SL have an army or police force", there is no need of those in any real capacity. There are groups that role play being an army or police force in SL, but they are not official, and they are not in charge of anyone outside their own roleplay. You might say the Lindens (who are the company employees) are the "Police", although they do not wear uniforms, and really funciton more like admins. If you have problems that you think should be policed, like harassment, you can file an AR under the help menu if you think someone is violation the Terms of Service.

Yes, every wed the grid comes down for an update unless otherwise stated that the update will be postponed.

You are not the only one, best option is to look at the homepage and see how many people are in game. If the number is 0, then nobody is, not even lindens. If its around 5-10, then lindens only are allowed in atm. If it is 1000 or more, then the grid is most likely open but not accepting new log ins or just restarted and clogged with all the addicts trying to get in first. However, if you see 5000-10000 people online, chances are everything is up and running smoothly and log ins are open to everyone.

That can lag behind, or forward, while the status online is real time within 2 minutes or so.
