Ok not sure what is going on but I was on SL until around 3.30am UK time this morning...went to bed and took a few hours sleep and relogged in at around 7am UK time where I showed up as just hair and shoes...clothes ( I was promised) were downloading...well they didn't so I logged out....relogged...me ? showing as all grey now and I couldn't move couldn't do anything and no clothes or skin...so I log out...try to log back in and now constantly getting servers did not recieve packet...try again in a few mins...IT is not my ports...I've emptied my cache on sl and browser and checked all settings......I'M FRUSTRATED!!! Please somebody help me or is it just SL screwing up as per as per and everyone else is in the same boat as me. I can see thousands online and have no idea why i can't log in. I can get google in a flash so I am online honest!

kk rant over*cough*

try ctrl alt d at same time until client window comes up
then select character/rebake
if often works for me.
Grey has to do with colors not rezzing.
Another thing you can do is go into edit/preferences/network
clear cache select apply ok and relog.
I often do that when I am crashing or have problems with textures.

I've done all this and now I can't actually log in spark...it goes to sending @waiting for region handshake and then hangs or if I'm VERY lucky it starts trying to connect to region ( Huk) and then hangs....Can't understand why I can't get in when I logged in at 7am though....i then get the grey box stating Unable to connect: Login packet not received by server...please try again in blah blah blah

Earlier I had some problems too.
At first it was because I had typed something wrong password but I swear it was but kept saying it was wrong password. I crashed and crashed. Sometimes when my internet service slows really slows down it takes long time for greyness to go away. One day I was on for over 8 hours my inventory wouldn't fully load.
Another time my isp briefly went down.
I hadn't restarted my computer in long time so I after I did it some how things seem betterr, signed back in now things seem bit more stable.
Maybe I am wrong but sometimes SL or Computers do weird things that are total puzzle to me even after reading and learning bit about both.
Either way hope someone who knows will respond.
I guess I am clueless ....lol
Must have missed what you were saying I thought you just were rezzing.
duh Sorry:(
P.S. It sounds like what happens when there is restart.
I couldn't log in earlier it just hung there. Restarted computer, made some food, watched tv relogged no problem.

Last 24 hours has been weird. Friends saying they can't see me. I can't see friends. Grey shape. Servers not receiving. Unable to teleport.
Last night First Look viewer started taking 5 minutes plus on 'Starting SecondLife' box.
Couple of hours back booted normal client .. perfect! Grr! in my lunch hour it works!!

Try logging on to a different sim, but it does sounds like connection problems on your end rather than a grid problem.

A misconfigured firewall or router will leave you hanging at "waiting for region handshake" or "connecting to region" just like you're experiencing.

Hi Fluff, don't shout at me but have you tried a Cold Boot?
Mine just seems to get 'sticky' whether it's modem or PC not sure but sometimes a complete restart can sort it .. probably simply the time interval before retries :(

I've been getting the same problem with the latest version of FL since it came out, in fact it's so bad I've reverted to the old viewer. Unfortunately FL becomes the main viewer on Wednesday.

Sheesh!

it has now righted itself and I have clothes and can actually move around again YAY!!! I was right in thinking it wasn't my end and it definitely wasn't my isp as I could get every where else including another game sim I sometimes frequent....lots of friends now saying they have had same problem today so points finger at the hamster! It's his fault :P

I just tried first look. I tried to change appearance things were all grey,
I like that the fonts are bigger because I have vision issues but I crashed prompty then didn't try it again.
I don't really understand the program myself or why I should use it.
Should I just uninstall it?
