So I've been hepped to the concept of commission vendors and am looking at hooking a couple up at good ol' Squeeze One Plaza. I'm also considering starting some up myself.
I already have a couple in mind since I want to have good products I'd stand behind at my place, but I'd like to hear what peoples' overall experiences are with having commission vendors at their place.
What have you guys seen?

It is very simple to code a single prim commision script, i posted the one i use in teh scripting libary forum on here.
I use them in my shops and i love it, i let my friends sell what they made in my shop, i get a %, i do all the marketing and advertising and drive traffic to my store to sell both mine and other peoples products.
We all benifit from it!
they get to make extra money from my traffic, i get to have more products in my stores

I used to use them and got some sales, I think it is a wonderful concept.
I plan to have some available to those who wish to sell my items.

Very good concept, not always great execution. Take a look at the Apez options for an example of how well they can work.

although ive never set up a comission vendor, apez does seem to be the one people prefer. ive rezzed comission vendors and theres one thing ive noticed: once you give people the ability to market your product without your control, they have the ability to affect peoples perception of your buisiness. if people start rezzing your vendor in seedy places, or in an aggressive manner, or worse yet on 16m's... you might get some fallout.

might be a good idea to make the vendor that they will rez specify somewhere on it that it is a resell vendor or something....
(I use jevn and so far I like the system)

Vendors

Please be aware, that commission vendors can consume, up to 50%, not to mention more if its a tampered script / vendor. Lastly, you are placing your faith in something, you may not know much about. Why would you place your business with someone(thing) you know nothing about?
Lastly, many SL customers really avoid vendors simply due to the wait times. People dont want to wait. I have a solution that virtually eliminates that, even loaded with over 40 items.
I deal in vendors, and have some of the fastest around SL, with a JEVN style config, and remotely deployable from one centeral server, makes management and updating a snap. I am competitively priced, and willing to discuss 'commission' based systems.
I have 3, 7 and 14 prim models both stand alone and networked based systems.
Please feel free to im me in game, as I am usually in SL from 7am - 7pm SL time, Id be happy to demo them for you. And if this is not the best option for you, Im happy to help you make an informed decision.

ah well I will stick with jevn, I have not had any problems and do not foresee being ripped off by the jevn creators
and the way I see it, if someone really wants to rip off someone who does what I do, they are gonna go for far bigger fish than me hehe
Not saying you are trying to rip me off, just realized how that sounded, sorry

My store (see profile) is almost entirely commission based apart from some yachts I make myself. There are a number of ways of doing this.
Some vendors are placed by the maker of the item, they see all the transaction (who\'s buying etc) and forward my commission on to me.
Other vendors are placed myself, the initial transaction goes through my account and the cost minus my commission gets sent to the maker (in this case the maker supplies the commission vendor already configured with his key and the percentage and the scripts marked at not modifiable).
I have single prim vendors with scripts, jevn, apez and hippotech vendors in my store and the ones that give me (and the makers) the most problems is the jevn ones, a number of my suppliers have switched from them to hippotech recently.

Spanky Straaf SpS - Development The pinnacle of quality I love it -- the old this is what's wrong with everyone else and why you should buy mine sales technique. Squeezeone -- I use Apez and I love them. I tried out all the demo models before I purchased too -- from the vaguely known to the obvious. And hey Spanky, I am sure you are talented. Probably a lot smarter than me. But the first 3 rules of Sales are not "Bash, Denegrate, and hey look what I got" I'm sure you are better than that. Cheers

Cheers I see nothing that Spanky says that "bashes" another. He is stating why his vendor is a better quality vendor. He only mentions a name because he is offering a similar configuration for those that don't want to have to learn something new, but want something better. I agree with him, I hate to wait for vendors to change textures to see the next item. I stood next to one for several minutes and the picture would not load. This is precisely why I refuse to shop from vendor machines. So all power to spanky for creating a faster machine. Its great to see things in the game improve our overall experience. For that, Spanky should be commended! Xplorer

No one was bashing anyone. But if you have no experience scripting, how could you know whether the vendor you choose to use isnt a money thief.
This was a notice sent to me just three days ago.
warning if you have a wolf rocco's 3 prim animation vendor in your inventory do not open it, it will take your lindens from you.... DELETE IT
Im not bashing anyone's products or abilities.
And as far as why someone should consider mine, I take the time out to help educate consumers, wether it is to my advangage or not. I am not interested merely in making sales, but truely to help others making educated decisions.

Ya know I gotta apologize Spanky -- I read a little too deep this morning before my coffee. So I will respectfully bow my head and remember to shut my mouth in the morning LoL.
Cheers

Yeah, I think I'll be going with a vendor my friend is making for me. I have the actual script and am essentially "reading along" as he does things to it.
As far as selling other people's commissioned goods at my place, I think I'm going to keep it "in the family" for now. I'm not making enough money off the mall area to justify dealing with people over that stuff.
I have one guy's commission vendor (Black Ops) at my place and I'll see how that goes.
Thanks for the input everybody!
