I just chatted with a Linden and discovered something interesting. All billing for SL is done through a 3rd party so all your information is already in the hands of an outsourced company. For those upset about the idea of your info being used by entities outside of LL, too late, the deeds been done. In fact it has been done since the major security breech occurred a while back.

You may run around in panic now. Woot.

No kidding. Its called a bank account. Some people use more than third parties. Like Paypal, or a credit card (not a debit card) :p

Third parties arent the issue. its giving out private details, that to some people-myself included, are the issue. I've already said I'll pop down to the UK office (I work near it) and they can verify me that way.Colette Meiji also gave another idea that could be a possibility located in the same thread

The issue isn't the 3rd party. The issue is in giving out vital personal information. The kind of information that should never be asked for nor given out over the internet.

The issue indeed the vital personal data, but also the third party.

How thrustworthy is this third party that will verify our age? Their website makes doesn't convince me a bit that they are really thrustworthy.

Thing here is, my credit card I can cancel with one phone call. I am even insured against misuse of my credit card.
The information that is asked for perfect for indentity theft and adviced not to transferred over the Internet with "normal" computer with "normal" security.

Misuse of a credit card is quickly handled when discovered. Indentity theft can distroy all you have.

Morwen.

You missed the point. Who is handling the actual inspection of your identity isn't the issue any more than the idea of being required to prove your adulthood.

The foundation of the argument is resistance to being required to "present your papers" for the privilege of playing a "game" followed on equal footing by the legitimate fear of disclosure.

As many have said, payment information is acceptable required information for an online business. Outright demand of your social security number, passport, or drivers license is not and grates on the sensitivities of the normal individual.
