html and vb codes... seems that the html and vb codes are busted in the forums, everywhere. anyone hear anything about if they are going to turn it back on anytime soon?\ It is hard to read posts that have formatting via html can't say if the posts in question are interesting or not, I back out when I have to read through html, bad enough when I used to write it to make webpages LOL (back in the day) anywho, any word, or announcements I might have missed? (searching forums is a nightmare)

From: Rhaorth Antonelli anyone hear anything about if they are going to turn it back on anytime soon? It is hard to read posts that have formatting via html In https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-156 Torley makes no estimate of a fix date. I think there's a greasemonkey script cited in that jira for getting Firefox to fake at least some of the old bbcode functionality. Sometimes it works to press Quote as if to include it in a reply, and read from inside that window.

You suppose there might be some kind of security related reason to turn off links? Maybe something related to phishing? It's out of my field of knowledge to know if that is possible.
I wish they'd just tell us a reason for turning off links, even if they don't tell us what impending change in the web site provides the reason for turning them off.

I have no knowledge of how a clickable link could be a security issue, all it does is hyperlink to another page or whatnot...
strange

This is an other example of why the "Tao of Linden" is a poor business practice. Allowing your employees to decide what they want to work on or not work on will result in projects started but never completed. When something sounds like fun and an interesting project there is much interest and drive to get it started. But as is often the case the later stages of a project become more work and less fun and interest in completing it wanes. LL will soon have to wake up and learn that things like the "Tao of Linden" sounds nice and is a very "San Francisco" way of doing things, however it is a piss poor way to run a business in the real world.

THere is a great Add on for FireFox that puts the links back in. You can get in at the Add Ons page for FireFox and it is called Linkification. It works great.
For anyone not running FireFox..why the hell not?

From: Bubba Daniels You can also use for http links. For some reason that still works. I tried this one a little, but it turns out that it only works sometimes. And for some reason, if you edit your post, it screws it up by adding the URL tag around it again. I've been using Safari at home because it's always been way faster on the Mac than Firefox for me. (Don't know why, as Firefox on Winshmoes is speedy as can be.) I guess I'll have to switch to Firefox at least for the forums, as it seems they aren't going to fix code anytime soon. BTW, when I checked earlier, only about 20 people had voted on JIRA to have this fixed. Qie gave the address, but I'll repeat it: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-156Please please please, if you want this fixed, go vote on it!

yes I run firefox so ty for that link as well, I will look into it
the reason [img]blah blah works is they have VB code on html code off but VB code is messier than html sometimes

From: Bubba Daniels You can also use for http links. For some reason that still works. Thanks for the tip I saw that some people still manage to post links and wondered how they do it (should have quoted their post to see the tags).

Were not we first told that the feature was turned off because they were going to add to or update the forums? That must have been a month ago at least....

This seems related to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closure_by_stealth, in my opinion. Make the boards increasingly useless, such that people will abandon them, then they can finish closing them because "no one uses them anymore".

Yup. Looks like that, because indeed it's only a switch...one little button. And even if it were broke, shouldn't someone would've fixed it by now? Mandy C
