Resident lost??

If I search for a member in world, type in the correct name (yes I checked) and it says: "None found" Does that mean that the person in question cancelled their membership? Sorry to come up with these newbish questions but I never had this message before.

Only time I ran into that was when I searched for someone who turned out to be on suspension by LL. Dunno how many other situations might produce it - aside from screwed-up search, of course, which I did not include because it happens all the time and everyone is pretty much used to it by now...

Are we talking about a very new member?

I had this once with someone who just joined SL. A little later I could find her through search.

Every resident's name I type in is found except the person I'm referring to. This person logged off normally on april 1st and hasn't been back since.

When an account is cancelled, yes, the name will no longer show up in Search, tho you can still usually bring up the profile from the calling card in your inventory or by clicking on something they made. They should be gone from any group list where they were a member(this can take up to 3 months, since they technically have 3 months to re-activate thier account). Unfortunately, it does probably mean that the account has been cancelled.

Account cancelations need some clarification. I understand that if you miss your tier and accound fees for a month then you get 6 weeks to put this right, after which time your account is cancelled. Is this right? And after cancelation can the account be re-activated at a future date providing all monies owed are payed up?

Your account wont be cancelled for lack of tier payment or premium membership payment, you will just be taken down to a basic account and your land will be re-acquired by LL and auctioned off. You wont be able to get your land back by "paying up" since its likely to already have been bought by someone else.
But your account won't be 'cancelled' unless you cancel it. You have 3 months after cancelling to decide if you want to re-activate it, tho its very likely you may be missing things in your inventory. I have had a friend re-activate her account many months after cancelling, but all she got back was the name/avatar... her inventory was empty. This was years ago tho as well, and she had to contact LL to get her account back... not sure if they would even be willing to do this now.
Your basic account is "Free for Life"... every thing else ya gotta pay for. Don't cancel your account and it will always be there, even if you are naked, ruthed and landless.

Quite recently I tried a search for a clothing designer who hadn't answered my IM about a purchase malfunction. When their name didn't show up, I assumed they had left the game.
Then a week later, the designer shot me an IM, refunded my money and the malfunctioning product (which was a very generous gesture).

So I can only conclude the Search was borked the day I tried it.

If I read this thread correctly, do I see the suggestion that if a basic member does not log in for three months, then their inventory will be wiped by the time they return?

Actually I believe there is an option to do so on the webpage under the My Account section.

Banned and suspended account also will not show up in search.

No, only if you CANCEL your account.

To cancel your account you go to the MY ACCOUNT page of the website on click the link for "Cancel Account".

When someone doesn't show up in search then magically re-appears it can be from a) they cancelled thier account then thought differently and re-activated it b) LL issues with prescence, which are fairly common c)they were suspended or banned.

Thank you for the clarification, Pie. I never noticed the cancel option before, so this is a relief that summer vacations won't be penalized.
