Hello Carolyn and welcome to SL! I can definitely recommend you go to Hair Styles by Tami McCoy for hair, she has many different styles and 10 different colors , her main store is in Dixie ! Shoes and boots , I really like the ones by Shiny Things. Hope these help you!

Welcome, Carolyn! As far as hair goes, I get a *lot* of mine from Elikapika Tiramisu's shop-- she's awesome, huge variety of colors and styles. Kin Keiko and a shop called CAKE do some really beautiful flexy styles that move in a nicely realistic way; Curious Kitties and Playful Kitten are good for funkier, more wild styles. There are so many hair places, you just have to try lots of demos. I don't wear prim shoes a lot, but one of the best places (in my opinion) is Fallingwater Cellardoor's place, Shiny Things. Amazingly detailed shoes-- I have her Z Boots (I think that's the name, I'm not in world now) which are actually made for men, and I love them to bits because they look great on my size-35 feet. Other good places are Lassitude & Ennui, Le Cadre Network, and Sylfie Minogue. Also Jeepers Creepers and Feri Beckenbauer for great ass-kicking boots... again, there are too many places to mention! Oh, and if you want lots of other good ideas, be sure to pick up Second Style magazine-- it's currently on issue #5, but the previous issues are available, it's full of fashion tips and ideas. There are a ton of fashion blogs as well, and I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable than me could point out links. I've also found it extremely helpful to start making landmarks to places I want to remember, especially if they're smaller, less well-known shops that might not appear in New Products regularly. I keep a whole notecard for shopping landmarks.

Some of my favorite hairstyles for prim hair are from Pandia's Purrfect Hair and from Celestial Studios. Both offer many styles and color variations, at a reasonable price and well styled. Most of what both stores offer is pretty low lag, though Pandia does sell a few 'hoochie hair' styles that are full of twisted torus ringlets, and which I would expect to be more lag inducing.
For non-prim avatar hair, or for styles that use avatar hair plus a simple prim add-on like a pony tail, you have got to try Robin Sojurner's stuff. It's what I use for my 'low lag' avatar. Beautiful, realistic textures!

Nothing wild or exotic. I keep referring to the "Girl Next Door" look. Can't wait to get started shopping!!!! LOL. Now I just have to figure out where and how to open the boxes these clothes and accessories will come in!!! The life of a newbie is not easy!!!! LOL

LOL Just rez the box on the ground (click and drag it from your inventory) in a build-enabled area, right click the box and choose 'open,' then 'copy to inventory.' Most times you can open the boxes in the store. Edit: usually, clothes will be delivered right to your inventory in a folder; the folder will be named the same thing as the outfit.

Most of Robin's non-prim hairstyles also include matching 'eyebrow tattoos', for those who want their eyebrows to match their hair. How cool is that? Very handy for a beginning avatar who doesn't yet own a fancy custom skin.
And Guys? Several of her styles, including the pony tail, look great on men too!

I personally love GuRl 6 hair. Lots of the flexi styles out there are ALL flexi and look like you are in a hurricane. If you ever watch a RL girl walk, there is some hair that doesn't move. Her hair has flexi 'pieces' so it looks more like a gentle wind than in the face of a giant fan. She has hundreds of styles, with hundreds of colors and if you buy a lighter color, the new flexi's are all color changing with a touch script. As for shoes, I haven't found a shoe store that offers all sorts of good shoes, so I have different ones for different styles. The only tennis shoe I found that fits right comes from FNKY! As for stripper shoes, Image Reflections, for cutie pie shoes, ETD. Boots are a toss up for me, I like the pair I got from ETD, but I'm rather picky in boots, I like designs on them and it's hard to find some that I like on my av. What I've taken to doing is wearing the stockings from Nyte N Day on some of the outfit and a pair of black shoes. Everyone LOVES my boots! It's just a strappy black shoe with socks!

I have to agree about the selection from GuRl 6. I was there a few days ago and was amazed by the variety of both male and female styles. Unforunately, that trip was right after one of the worse 'updates', and my client was crashing so often that I didn't dare buy anything!
Boots! I can't off hand recall the name of the maker. I am not on my SL system right now and can't check. But if you go to Dungeon Online's store, and turn right as you enter the store, there is a merchant there that has a WONDERFUL selection of boots, complete with a built in 'sexy walk' AO. She's the same one that offers a 'school teacher' and 'school girl' uniform set. ( What can I say, the BDSM crowd really knows good boots! *grins* )

If you have an AO already, you can usually delete them out of the base prim. I had an AO, got a pair of shoes with that in them, and I was walking sideways going forward and when I tried to walk backwards, I was badly contorted!
