you have to open the texture and then go to file and pick save texture as.
You do need mod or copy permissions.
If they are pictures you took that shouldn't be a problem...

Hit the "snapshot" button at the bottom of your screen... select the 3rd radio button down... then hit the "save" button then you'll see you're regular "save as" pop-up

you need full permissions to save a texture from SL to your PC (using the steps described above)
if as mentioned, it is a snapshot that you took, then yep just save as described
alternately you can save a snapshot to disk when you take it, doesn't cost you anything, but also doesn't save it into SL, it saves it on your PC instead
(useful for when you want to do touchups to something before uploading to SL)

As stated above you can choose to "Save Snapshot to Disk" with a choice of formats, but another possibility is sending snaps directly to Snapzilla or Flickr by the email function.

CTrl + Shift + S
brings up the snapshot screen, makes a picture of what you currently see, and also removes annoying props, such as hovering names, and various poseballs if wanted.
protip":
Don't take a snapshot that is larger than your current screen resolution. because many viewers crash due to that.
