Yikes! When I logged on today it asked me if I wanted to try the optional new version. I agreed and downloaded it. Now I can't even log on to SL. It just crashes after telling me it set the video to recommended settings.

Is there anywhere I can download SL version 1.13? That one worked fine on my computer.

Today's new version (1.14) just crashes all the time.
Thank you.

Why no Beta testing before release?

I guess the keyword was 'optional' in that message. :)

I personally am not in favor of being required to try stuff that hasn't finished going through their beta testing phase. :(

I have done nothing but crash and can hardly move - I downloaded this new version - which worked wonderfully for 20 seconds.
SL has been full of lag recently and I have tried everything - yes I am running Vista BUT surely that cant be reason for all the terrible crashing and failures. Jerky movement and lag in speech. Over the past few months it has progressively grown worse.

I opted to not update tonight and still can't get in, I just get a 'Login Failed' message. I have tried with both the old viewer and my older version of First Look.

Check out this Blog entry:

it's not the new viewer, it's another back-end problem.

Just out of curiosity, do people actually delete their old installers? I have a bunch of old ones. Neither the uninstall or installation programs delete the old install files, so a lot of folks may have old install files they arent' aware of.

*noddles* I'm having the problem too and it's because of this.

I am scared now, my last attempt at login resulted in a message saying they can't log me in at the moment as experiencing problems with my inventory host *cries*

Does updating through the viewer download the installer? I have always used the First Look viewer and downloaded new versions from the website.

From the blog:

UPDATE [3:10pm PDT]: We store per-user information (such as inventory lists) on a cluster of machines, with each resident assigned to a particular server in the cluster. One of these servers is having problems at the moment, and it is unable to keep up with the requests coming in. We are currently investigating the issue.

Residents who have their per-user information stored on the affected system will be unable to log in at the moment, and will see the following message:

We were temporarily unable to complete your login because we are currently experiencing issues with your inventory host. Please try again in a few minutes.
