Brand New! Hello Everyone!

Ok, I'm brand new to SL and REALLY need some ones help, possibly I could meet them online? I have NO idea what to do. I've read the help files and tried to ask people online but they just ignore me. So, where do I begin? (If you want to know background history of what I've played with that's similar, the games are Active Worlds and The Sims Online.)

Well really anything. I find it odd, I ask for help at "Home" but no one responds. I'm practically invisible to them.

People in world are probably ignoring you because it's a very difficult and time-consuming question to answer, sort of like asking, "What should I do with my life?" Certainly people could give you suggestions, but it really depends upon your interests, just like RL. Depending upon how you look at it, SL could either be a massive waste of time or an infinite opportunity. Some people pursue social connections, some pursue business, some create things, some role play...some do a combination of things.

My advice would be to consider what interests you and then to employ the search tool and ask people specific questions about those interests (both here and in-world). Look through the forum topics to get a vague idea of some pursuits also. People will undoubtedly offer some suggestions too. I think the new Sl book is ok too, kind of a nice overview.


Added: What is "Home"? Do you mean an infohub? If so, unfortunately, this may be about the worst place to get help. There are often one or two souls trying to help, but mostly it's a complete circus. Signal to noise ratio is too high for someone just trying to figure out what to do.

Hey G4............We all know how it is when you first arrive. I spent two weeks wondering around not knowing squat or how to even learn. So write down my name and do a search for people (one of the buttons at the bottom of the interface window "search". I'll try to help you if I can get in now. The grid has had some recurring problems with loggins and searches lately so it may be a hit and miss thing. And teleporting is evidently not working 100% of the time either............but look me up if you can get on in say about 30 mins or so. :0

I am still relatively new but I am not asking tons of annoying questions as much.
I just don't ask any more or try to figure out stuff by myself or hope to find friends who can help.
Sometimes its hard to deal with someone asking a bunch of questions especially if you got stuff going on.
Forums sometimes are helpful.
There is search option but its tricky to use here and it doesn't always provide what you're looking for.
A word warning, just be patient, things either will make more sense as you learn or they may take a while and lots of persistances. The game has major learning curve and sometimes its hard to find people for help.
Sometimes it just hard finding people just to do things with in game.
It is even harder if you are new and know no one.

I did sims online beta, and played Active worlds.
This is different type of enviroment. It not really a game, you don't have ways to get free stuff unless you can sell stuff or buy lindens, or find a freebie place or good camping spot. its more about creativity and sometimes you might find few people to talk too or thats what I know so far.

I met him in game....................he's coming along fine LOL Did the box on the hand trick and even managed to do a car on the head. He took it well............and he's fun too.

I gave a couple landmarks to The Shelter and Yadni's..........but, I have so few landmarks that guys are interested in. Look him up........he's fun and worth the tme to help.

Last time I saw G4 he was being pro at the zombie camping thing LOL

What worked for me:An hour so at Welcome Island, a day at NCI, and I hit the streets. You're going to make mistakes, don;t worry about it.

It has taken me 2 months to just figure out hello avatar script but I didn't give up and I figured it out.
There so many things I still don't think ever understand even if I remain in the game for years but who knows.
Right now I wish I could figure out why this texture vender isn't working right
I thought perhaps I had to recreate the whole entire object with new scripts, I did need bigger texture frame but sadly I do not know how to fix it but eventually I will.
I had this other problem within game with the internet browser for over month now, finally I figured it out with help of friends.
The sollution was simply setting my IE broswer as default.
I guess this is just how things go sometimes here in SL if you're trying to figure things out.
