Okay, it's quick....
I have a large board created. It's one object and designed to be a wall. Is there anyway to cut a frame out of the centre of the board so I can put a window pane in? Or do I have to build around the window?

On the "Object" tab of the Edit menu, there's a box marked "Hollow". Increase that value (max 95%) to make a hole suitable to your needs.
You may find a useful introduction to SL building tools in a guide I have written for Stratics Second Life, which can be found here - the technique required (Hollow prims) also gets a mention in Building Tips. There are a number of other "How To" guides on the Stratics Second Life site, as well as news and a community forum, which you may find useful. You can also look up the words Ivory Tower for a great in game guide on building

I second the Ivory Tower! It's awesome, beautiful, and their radio station is pretty awesome as well!
