I cant figure out what the problem is:

I have 512mb ram.
I have a new (less than a month old) nvidia card 7 series.
I have a Gateway 507GR which most computer experst desribe as " a very nice system".
Since the latest upgarde, I crash on the average 3 times an hour.
I cant 'move'. My av freezes somtimes for 5 minutes at a time. only to move a foot or so forward, then freezes again. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes to cross a room.
It doesnt matter if I'm wearing 300 prims or zero. Makes no differemce that I can see.

What needs to be done? I dont want to buy memory if that's not going to solve my problem.

This isnt any fun at all, & I dont know what to do. That graphic card was expensive (not relative to others, just to what I like to spend on my system) Its very much like waiting 4-6 minutes for a page to load (or not load at all) with dial up.

Someone has GOT to know what I can do!!!!
Please help!!!

Hi there!

First and foremost, I don't know if people have suggested this to you before, but clear your cache.

To do this, go into edit/preferences/network and press the 'clear cache' button. You will need to restart SL after doing this.

Also, you might want to reduce your draw distance. Even though I'm running on a nice computer as well, I set my draw distance at 64 just to reduce the number of things that my puter has to process. This is under the 'graphics' tab. You can also turn off streaming video and streaming music.

Once you've set all this stuff, log out of SL, REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER, turn off all unnecessary programs (check your puter's start bar for this; all the little icons on the right hand side mean that your computer is doing stuff on the side.) Exit or stop all the processes like the CD maker, any internet messengers, etc. THEN start SL.

Should run faster.

memory shouldnt be your problem, its could be drivers, id suggest updating everything + what was mentioned above

ALTHO! more memory is highly recomended these days, windows xp alone can suck down half of what you have

i looked it up and it says it uses ddr 1 ram and comes with 400mhz pc3200... current price for a 1 gb pc3200 stick (giving you 1.5gb total) is about 80 bucks, an extra 512 would be about half or abit less so its not a horrible sticker shock

and eventho theres a 99% chance that memory isnt your problem you will love the difference if you did toss some extra ram in there, not only for SL but for prettymuch anything multimedia

Make sure antivirus, antispy, or other antimalware programs you have have been told to keep their hands of SL.

You need more memory, its as simple as that. Bump your system to 2GB and you will notice an amazing world of difference.

With your current setup your living on Swap Space and thats why your lagging so hard.

I could barely run SL back in September with 512 and that was at least three significant client updates ago. I upgraded my graphics and doubled my RAM within the first two weeks and now I'm running near the minimum again.
You can't lose by puting more memory in .. unless you are thinking of getting a better computer.
Clearing cashe has been mentioned among other things. No-one said defrag yet .. defrag!! ;)

addition the above, run a registery cleaner... you will be surprised at the amount of errors you will get and the system will run sweeter as it will not be searching for lost and broken links.

You DEFINATLY need a RAM upgrade. These days 512MB is next to useless, even without SL you'll be using most of it. My system is running on 645MB at the moment ( 230MB of it is Folding@Home though ) so as you can see I'd be running on 400MB without even touching SL.

SL frequently uses well over 500MB so 1GB is the minimum BUT even that would be pushed so going to 2GB is reccomended.
