Modifiable object question

I bought something that's marked in my inventory as "no transfer" only. I can copy it, but
when I edit it it's locked, as though it were marked "no modify". But it isn't marked "no modify". How does that happen? I suppose there's nothing I can do about it....

Thanks,
-Sheba

You should be able to unlock it. Clicking in the box for locked and removing the check mark there should enable all your editig functions. Locking is like a safety to prevent accidental editing.

Sorry, I shouldn't have said "locked". It's not locked in the sense that the locked box is checked, but in the sense that all the editing tabs are grayed out. I can't check or uncheck any box in them.

The object acts like "no modify" was set on it, but the inventory doesn't show that setting.

Weirdness Warning!

The permissions an inventory item have do not have to match the permissions the underlying object has. [Is this a bug or a feature? I do not know, but it is a fact.]

Please, what permissions [exactly] does the inventory item have, and what permissions [exactly] does the object have when rezed in world?

I once accidentally linked an object i created to a No Copy object. I delinked it again, but the object i was making forever more acted as a No Copy object despite all permissions appearing to the contrary.

It's a Bug, and one i am cautious now to avoid when Building.

I coincidentally just responded with this in another post:

I just today built a 4 prim object from scratch.... I should have total control, but NO! It's acting as if I added parts from other objects that did have restrictions.
I'm really annoyed about this.
It says creator is 'unknown'
I can mod, copy, and transfer..... but it's not finishing as it's own object. ARG.
It won't lock, it won't let me edit the name in the edit menu (but I can in my inventory).

The inventory item is (no transfer). What should I be reading to tell you about the rezzed object?

Use De-bug Permissions - it gives a great deal of useful information.

Use De-bug Permissions - it gives a great deal of useful information.Very true. I use it all the time. However, it does not provide the information I was asking for.The inventory item is (no transfer).Sorry. I was asking for the full specification, including the states of the Copy and Mod flags. Turn on Debug Permissions [in the Client Menu, somewhere], right click on the inventory item, and read the Current Owner extended permissions in the Properties dialog. What should I be reading to tell you about the rezzed object?Again with Debug Permissions turned on, right-click the object and select Edit, More, and General, and read the Current Owner extended permissions. An object with full permissions will be VMCT [not sure of the order, as I`m not in-world at the moment].Thanks,

I have seen people have similar issues ith the staves they buy from me.
For them the script inside is marked no mod no transfer.

If they are wearing the staff they can not mod it. however if they drop it on the ground they have full mod rights to the prims. Not sure why this happens like that but it does.

So the question is, when you try to edit it, are you wearing this item?

OK -- in inventory I see
B:VMC O:VMC G:* E:* N*:VMC

In Edit Object I see:
B:V T O: O:V T G:
E: N:V F:V T

I'm guessing the buglet is manifesting here in that O has M in inventory, and doesn't have it in Edit Object?

Thanks much,

Yes, the inventory item thinks that the object is Copy/Mod/NoTrans, but the underlying asset is really NoCopy/NoMod/Trans. [C=Copy; M=Mod; T=Trans; V=Move.] Does the person you bought this from know of the problems you`re having? Thanks much,You`re very welcome. I`m sorry that all I could do was help you understand the situation, and not help you fix it.:o

No, but it was one of Sarah Nerd's cheapies, and she just helped me out of some land I needed to dump, and I'm not going to hassle her over hair that cost 50L and I probably borked it myself.

Anyway, it's great to know about those tools -- the debug menu is a fine thing, but it'd be a lot finer with some docs.

Best regards,

If it tests bad, tell her -- she`d probably want to know; if it tests good, then you`ve got a known good copy and can dispense with the bad one.:)Anyway, it's great to know about those tools -- the debug menu is a fine thing, but it'd be a lot finer with some docs. You got that right! It is great to know about. I`ve [seemingly long] been wondering where the documentation is. I`m finally beginning to find some that was apparently there all along, now that I don`t need it as badly any more.:)Best regards,
