Recovering a lost SL name from an email address I can't get to.

I had an account that was connected to the email address, Jfrench@qld.chariot.net.au, I have forgotten the name of my SL account and I don't use the ISP that had the email, but I know the password to my old SL account, because I use only 3 passwords on all my accounts.

All I want is the name of the Second Life account that was connected to my old email address that is now closed down because I don't use the ISP that email was connected to.

Hmm.. that's a bit of a stickler. The best I can suggest is if you aren't a premium is to submit a ticket in support asking for it. But be prepared to have it refused.

Try a support ticket.

If you have all of the information used to sign up the account, and information that only the account holder would know, LL *might* tell you the name.

You have forgotten the name.
You do have the email address but can no longer access that.

The sort of information that you might be able to present to LL would include:
The password ---- but !! because you say you use the same password in a number of places, better change those passwords in those places. !!
When was the account created? Even approximately?
When was it last logged in?
What was in the Profile that you remember?
What was your Home position?
Who was on your Friends list?
What groups were you in?
What sort of items were in Inventory?
Do you have and Chat and IM logs on disk?

Do you have a record of any emails sent to that address by LL? - Although someone could forge such things. XXXXX Duh! Strike that! If you had emails you would know the name :)

So.... Get as much 'secret' information as possible and submit it all to LL.
I really don't see them telling some random person an avatar name based only on the email address used to sign up an account.

I would try doing a search of all the files on your hard drive that contain the text "jfrench". Something might turn up. Also search for anything with jfrench in the filename.

It couldn't hurt to check your browser's stored passwords.

Googling for

jfrench "second life"

turns up a few hits - maybe you posted something in some forum somewhere that would jog your memory.

If you haven't reinstalled your puter since you last used the account...

If you're on Windows:
- open Explorer (the file kind, not the internet kind)
- in the address bar (including the % around appdata): %appdata%/SecondLife

Every account you logged on with (or tried to log on with) will be listed as a subfolder.

Look in your second life folder (on a mac it is ~/Library/Application Support/SecondLife, other systems are about the same) ... it will have subfolders of all the user names you have used with SL.

If you used a standalone email client such as Outlook Express with that email address you might still have the email on your computer.

If you did not reformat your computer, you might find the info within a folder with your character name there: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\SecondLife
