How to set up a new group?

Well, maybe that is what I am thinking of doing. Being a certified old fart in RL, age 61, I have run across others of a certain age. Above 40! I got to thinking of starting a group, if that is the correct term, with membership allowed only to the 40 and over crowd.

Is this doable? Would want it to be free of course, just a place or a site where we old farts could get together and chat or help each other out or discuss the kids! AND how would I get the word out about this group?

With me on my thinking on this?

Feel free to email me if you have ideas or suggestions or what ever.. Pretty sure my email works, casue I get a few a week from people here.

Search > Groups and check to see if there's already a group for this particular special interest.

i'm sure if you title the group appropriately with something like "Old Farts Over 40" or something, the youngin's will run to the hills in fear. LOL

i think it's a great idea. i can only imagine the fun titles you can play with. there HAS TO BE the stock "over the hill" and "old fart" and "old hag" options. of course!

but.... you won't really be able to control who joins by age, so hopefully only old-codger and old-gramma type avatars will only join.

speaking of... WHERE do i get a skin for an old person? i gotta have one! :D

i have a group, that i allow the members to choose from a list. i have 'gangster', 'bad kitty' and 'princess kitty' and 'security' so far, plus a few store related ones that other people probably wont want to wear. they don't really specify a group, just allow a fun title to add to their name.

for L$100, it's totally worth making SL more fun for everyone!

make sure you inspect the default permissions for the default usergroups!
'officers' group you may want to disable the ability to deed/sell land and so on, and 'member' group you should untick the group liability (profit/debit sharing). there are other permissions you will probably want to change, but those are the ones that come to mind.

There are at least a couple already out there. You might try IM'ing the owners to see what kind of membership they have and if they chat regularly.

Oddly, a lot of folks don't like groups that have a lot of chatter on the im channel, so you might find this a disappointing route, unless you use it to set events for your members where you can gather to chat.

Good luck find a group of folks that are a good fit for you!
