Why do the linden's Shut down the Grid and not tell people that are in world that they have done this? Is it really that hard to put out a message?

Well, they did dear. Perhaps you were too engaged to notice?
I must say, they only gave a minute's warning.

There was a message, just very short warning. Considering it was to investigate a possible permissions exploit, in such a case, fast action is warranted.

Girdz Meltdown

/agreed. I think it's about time for the Lindens to think about extending Prem Members subscriptions a day or so b/c of the accumilated three days or so of downtime over the past two weeks. Or perhaps we should all just cancel our Prems and create an Army of griefing Alts and join the huddled masses of non-paying, non productive members of our Brave New World

Appalled at standards

All I will say is its appalling the standard of Second life at this time, I pay a lot of money for this Place, I think it’s about time you started refunding Premium account holders for this Time offline, because you are sure unable to keep it online.

I've been working at 3 different mature clubs, I/C of employee recruitment and training, for about a year now. The practice of allowing people onto what is, after all, an adult SL (there is a separate one for under-18s) without the minimum age-proof security of a credit card payment astounds me. I either have to refuse the girl, or, if she claims to be substantially older than 18, ask her some questions from which I try and discover if she really is as old as she claims.

Why do I do this when the Linden age loophole is so large? Well, I once had a girl apply for escort training, and there was something about her IMs that made me wonder how old she actually was, so I asked her. "13, Miss" was the innocently honest reply, and my blood ran cold.

Linden may not care about allowing minors into SL, so someone has to.

there are alot of underaged kids in the grid. they get reported, if anything happens, they create a new character.. simple. Ive seen this happen with a kid that stole textures. shes back selling hair again under a different account.

I would think that it is easier to make a few lindens more than on the teen grid so I forsee a massive influx of minors. It just takes one kid on myspace to tell all his friends they can get money and play a game where they can do all sorts of things.

Im not sold on the idea that cc verification is the best way to handle it but there should be something. many people I know skype or have their own personal safegaurd system in place to allow them to feel as though they aren't dealing with minors, especially where adult content is concerned. me, I just hide on my land hah

I have only just come online. I can see no explanation on the official Linden forums, but I am assuming (from a cursorary glance at this forum's thread titles, that there has been another griefing attack :(

On the linden blog you can see a lot of information about what's going on. A permissions bug has been found, so the Lindens shut down the grid as an emergency measure.

No griefers, no grid attack, no hackers, no unverified accounts. Just a bug.

Really.

WHAT???

THE GRID DOWN?

LOL...THAT CANT HAPPEN IN SL... >:

I'm wondering if this is actually a game called "KILL THE GRID".

Where Lindens are one one team, Griefers are on the other.

And, we are just spectators in an elaborated Blog with a simulator attached.

Imagine, that this whole Second Life is just 2 geeks laughing thier ass off somewhere eating cheetos playing god with our money and avatars.

hmm this time, seems not to be any griefing..
10-14-2006 09:03
except a huge hole where ppl can copy items that have no permissions to do so, in other words, if you have items for sale, others can walk up and make a copy of it, as i understand the problem. I think the message in the SLOG, that says we can go and play in the preview grid, should apply double to their programmers...

Damn, wish i could be dishonest, laffin, id have gotten a couple of them tringo games...lol

Great. Now that's going to be a recurring nightmare for me.

Tiny avatar me, ducking replicated clown hats, screaming and running in slow motion while cheeto-crumb-encrusted fingers try to flick me off the grid

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

*wakes in a sweat, tries to log in to SL, finds the grid down and is carted off to the asylum*

If one can copy a non permed item, then can they change the perms to copy and spread original items thet ppl have worked hard on, all over the grid, as free to copy items, if so..
Holy crap what a nitemare from hell

Okay maybe I understand the reason for the grib being shut down immediately this time then! lol I would be so mad if people can take copies of things I have worked hard on building and creating. I wonder how long it was like this. I noticed last night that I could "take" a reserved sign my friend put out to save me a vendor spot so I Im'd her and told her I took it so I could put my things out. It never occurred to me that this meant people could steal things. I thought it was just because I was in her group or something. It may have been like this since last night! I guess we will find out if we see our creations for sale at other places.........How can something like this happen??
