Hi I got a new video card, and have downloaded all the latest drivers, etc. However, a lot of the time this happens... http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc352/JossNoel/Snapshot_003.pngwhich is getting a bit annoying. If I turn or move, it generally goes away, only to reappear when I move again. I have reinstalled SL, but it remains the same. Anyone got any ideas? - would be most grateful. Thanks Joss Edited to add - sorry, can't figure out how to make the picture appear in the thread!

You probably want to post your system specs here. The easiest way to do that is from the viewer, go to the help menu and choose About Second Life and then copy and paste the info here.

Did you get the drivers from the ATI website or from Windows Update?
If form Windows Update, you might be better served getting them from the vendor.

Hi
I got the drivers directly from the ATI website, which seemed to download and install fine without any error messages.

For a temporary fix you could try disabling atmospheric shaders in SL preferences. It's a crappy work-around because you lose windlight. Hopefully Suezanne will see this and have a better idea for you.

the pattern is familiar, and it's caused by lighting, possibly exacerbated by alpha'd textures... you MAY be able to disable local lighting to get rid of it, but you'll lose out on glow cast on objects.
ETA: it's likely a driver issue, you may want to use a previous version, or at the very least check you graphics options for settings involving lighting, clipping, and transparency. dun have ATI here so can't help with that.

The most recent ATI drivers have been reported to have this problem in SL. I don't use ATI so I'm only relatiing what I've heard. Many have fixed the problem by installing the 9.10 driver version (I believe 9.11 and 9.12 are the drivers that have this issue). It's also be mentioned that uninstalling the Catalyst Control Center has fixed it too (I believe the CCC is the equilant to nVidia's Control Panel and is not necessary for your card to work properly).
And the problem resembles a very common problem that ATI drivers have with OpenGL software (which SL is one). Turning off Vertex Buffer Objects (VBO) in preferrences fixes that...........worth a shot anyway.
