Am I the only one who finds it a bit odd that in order to get a copy of Second Life: The Official Guide you must pay cash? Seems they would have made it so that you could buy this with Lidens as well. Maybe I am over thinking this a bit but it just seems a company with its own currency would want to push it.

Linden Labs wants to officially claim that Linden Dollars are not a real currency. That would be at odds with them selling that book for linden dollars.

You buy the guide from Amazon or Barnes & Noble, not from LL, so paying in lindens is not an option.

Okay. Lindens for a real life object sold by Linden Lab through Second Life. Cashouts take twice as long as projected on the website, the grid is unstable, and customer service is--if you believe the forum posts--problematic at best. What makes you think that after paying 7500L for the book that it'll still be relevant to the current client or server model by the time you actually receive the thing in four or five years? (Ouch... I'm feeling rather snide. Okay, make that four or five weeks. Maybe.) Sorry, I'll take my chances with amazon.com.
