Well that's it, I'm not buying anything else in SL or off the SLX. So far I have bought 3 items only to find them for free later. Then I bought something last night off the SLX, couldn't get it to rez last night, and now it's gone from my inventory this am.
So now how do I actually either get the item or get my Ls back?

Nothing you can really do about the freebies, but as for the item you bought from slx, you should contact the seller, and politely explain the problem. More often than not, they will understand, and give you a replacement. I surely wouldn't just give up. From: Manstan Beaumont Well that's it, I'm not buying anything else in SL or off the SLX. IM the seller - most are all to familiar with SL's lack of reliability and will issue another copy.
However, it is probably in the best interested of both of you not to do this until LL has issued an all clear on the current problems.

From: Manstan Beaumont I figured that Zaphod. Just aggravating that 1/2 the time when I buy something in SL I get burnt. if you enjoyed the item, did you get burned? I too bought something yesterday that I already had for free before, but the box showed a new improved version of the same free thing I had lol. In any case, its buyer beware. Only buy from those you trust. I like to buy an item from a retailer and go back there because I know I can trust them. If the retailer has a crappy product, be glad you only spent the little you did. ASK other people who they recommend. People love to tell you who they think is good. Not only that, but referrals are key to doing a thriving business in SL. Just stick your chin up and remember to look for free items beforehand. Takes a little time and saves the frustration.

It will change again to 1/3 times, I am sure....
Just kidding. SL is just going through some real problems. Normally I had never real problems with buying things. So just be patient....
And yes, contact the shop owner.

I bought something off Slx once that I didn't receive, contacted them and everything was resolved wonderfully and I was very impressed with their service so don't give up on the Slx item just yet.

Sorry, just an aggravating morning after yesterdays day long aggravation. I will get this straightened out, and I already search the freebies first when I need something. The ability to search by item would be a big boon to SL, not only could you check to make sure the item your buying isn't free someplace else, but you could price shop I'm working on a small, low prim starter trailer, when I rezzed it this am, one end rezzed the next sim over; well blank area, so everything on that end of the trailer was returned to my lost and found to be rezzed and lined up again

If you dont have any luck getting a replacement from the seller, then contact SLX support. They will require you to submit a bug report to LL describing what happend, but they will replace the item assuming you follow the proper procedure.

And the only reason they request you file the bug report is so that someday LL might fix the cause of the problem I've had nothing but excellent service from SLX, thank goodness. They might require you to be in world if the item is transferable to make absolutely sure you get it, too.

There are two reasons that the items you bought might be available for free elsewhere. One of the reason is that unscrupulous people take the items that are intended to be free for everyone, but put a price tag to take advantage of the unwary shopper. The other reason is that the item may have come from a business-in-a-box. These are items intended to be resold- a business person buys the business-in-a-box with copyable items, then sells the copies. Since it doesn't cost anything to copy an item, competing businesses selling the same business-in-a-box items drive each others prices down to next to nothing. And then eventually, someone decides that 1L is a pittance so why not just give it away. And further, as to the business-in-a-box, all it takes is for one person to forget to reset the permissions on the items for sale so they are not both copyable and transferable, and at that point the items becomes free to everyone as a practical matter. I have some businesses-in-a-box, primarly to have unlimited copies of certain things that I can freely use, though I thought that secondarily I could make a little bit of money trying to sell the items. But now I'm thinking that I won't sell them. Most of the business-in-a-box outfits I have would be great values at $5L each. But most of those same outfits are hanging in Sara Nerd's newbie place for $1L. I forsee someone paying me $5L for something, then seeing the same thing the next day for $1L, and then getting mad at me for ripping them off. I'm not sure it's worth the bother. As to SLExchange and SLBoutique, I like to use those places to search for items I want, but then I go to the inworld stores to actually buy them, because there's something about going to the store to "see" the item that I like. But for the few things I've actually bought from each place, I've had no problems (except that sometimes it's hard to find the item in the inventory after I've bought it, which wouldn't be a problem if the Recent Items tab were actually functional for me). From: Manstan Beaumont Well that's it, I'm not buying anything else in SL or off the SLX. So far I have bought 3 items only to find them for free later. Then I bought something last night off the SLX, couldn't get it to rez last night, and now it's gone from my inventory this am.
So now how do I actually either get the item or get my Ls back?

I'm no longer buying anything period until I can get some assurance from LL that it will remain on my land or in inventory. If I was a content creator, I would be organizing some sort of group to demand LL do something to bring back a stable server and thus bring back consumer confidence. Mine disappears with all my items, never to return.

Now that makes sense. Except that I don't think there are enough Second Life users with your attitude to actually make a difference and pressure Linden Labs to make a more serious effort to solve those problems. And not enough lawsuits yet against Linden Labs for their acts and/or omissions costing their customers money. While you can not search for items in-world, you can in your inventory.
Try a place called YadNi's Junkyard.
It is not a junkyard, but a very well organised place. YadNi puts out freebies seperated by creation date and type. Take what you want and unpack them into spefic named folders for easy reference. Then you can eaither search by typing the name of the item into the search field in your inventory, search by type of product in that specific folder, or manually search through the inventory if you suspect it elsewhere.
While YadNi does not have every freebie in SL (a bit impossible task there), I would give that he has a very high percentage of the higher quality freebies.
Of course, someone could easily change the name and still sell it, but most that are too lazy to make their own stuff to sell, are usually even too lazy to retype a name or change the box they come in *smirks*
The SLX and LL problem.....I don't have any advice for other than to keep giving the Grid Monkeys coffee and bannanas (I also heard they like Krispy Kreame donuts...and who doesn't?!? ^.~).

Freebies being sold
07-31-2007 08:55
I have a tiny freebie shop at my mall, and I've been pretty careful to sort things by category when boxing them up. I found it frustrating to pick up a box of t shirts, say, and find that I had all sorts of other things in there, like wings, weapons, animations etc.
But it's so much more annoying to see people selling on freebies, sometimes at very high prices. I have a box of over 100 dresses, and I've seen them set for sale anywhere between L$1 each, and L$250 EACH!! It's really disheartening to see newbies conned out of their few Lindens, which could be spent on original content, when there is so much good free stuff around. I try to talk to my customers as much as possible to get them to pass on the stuff they get from me.
I don't make anything at all on the freebie shop; in fact I don't even have a tip jar, though my husband says I should! I just like to see the difference it makes to someone to come in with their default skin, shape and hair, and see them going off again looking fab, with a nice skin and loads of attractive clothes and accessories.
So I've had my say, and I'm just gonna go polish my halo a bit more!

The whole business in a box thing seems to be growing worse IMO On the spur of the moment I visited a mall that showed up in the popular places. After walking around a bit I was depressed to find the same designs for sale in 5 or 6 different stores. A day before when randomly exploring, I found the same thing. A majority of the stores I passed were selling BIB items. Some had not even bothered to make their own vendor pictures or update the item permissions (which were set to copy/transfer/mod). For the life of me I can't work out how these people intend to make enough money to even cover the shop rent. As the other posters pointed out, because the items are not unique, pricing is a race to the bottom. Since most experienced SL residents can recognize a BIB or freeby item, they won't buy. That leaves new people, who might part with their small amount of L$ on an item they could get for free. However if they find out that they paid say $25 or $50 for a free item, they will be much less inclined to shop in the future for fear of making the same mistake. I was lucky. The first item I bought in SL was a unique, well made item that I still wear to this day. I was happy to pay the $250 price. All I can suggest to the OP is to ask around and talk to experienced residents. They can usually suggest some nice shops to visit that sell original work. If buying fun female clothing is in your plans you can always come vist my little shop. (Shameless plug). I design all of my items. It's a BIB free zone

I got a new copy from the merchant, but it still wont rez, and I some how expect it to be gone from my inventory next time I log in. But that is not the only problem I'm having today. I've been having quite a few building problems.
Nice isn't it? you can get people to protest SL following a law they didn't make but have to adhere to, yet you can't get people to protest; as a group, these bugs.
I will have to thank the SL merchants I have had dealings with. If I have ever had a problem with an item they have set it right.
