Yes, I know this is residents' answer but this is more of a rant than a 100% question. I try to be reasonable and patient. I know that bugs and problems cannot be fixed extremely fast some times. I know all the Lindens are human and have lives outside of their jobs. I know that most of the Lindens are not overpaid. Or even "fairly" paid, in some instances.
However...this is getting ridiculous. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ability to post a correctly formatted URL (one that can be clicked on) is a BASIC component of online forums, correct ?
Feel free to lock and delete, mods. I had to get this off my chest.

I assume the whole purpose of removing the BB code functionality was to get rid of clickable URLs, since there's no telling what sort of links the forum users will post. I highly doubt that BB code will get enabled again.

Yet another step is treating us like mushrooms. Oh my, forbid that we can embed links to third party sources of information.

I think this is another attempt at getting the forums closed completely, by annoying us with 'broken' code. Steve, open a JIRA ticket and I'll vote!

From: Aleister Montgomery I assume the whole purpose of removing the BB code functionality was to get rid of clickable URLs, since there's no telling what sort of links the forum users will post. I highly doubt that BB code will get enabled again. If that is true then that's pretty silly. I mean, forcing people to copy/paste URLs doesn't prevent them from being led to external websites, it just makes the forum look tacky.

Agreed 100%. If "protecting the children" is the reason behind disabling clickable URL's, then we have become Disneyland-in-Cyberspace, truly.

if you use Firefox, there's a couple addons for it that will make them clickable here, one is called 'linkification'

And as promised, I voted! I don't think we should have to install an add-on for the forums to 'work as intended by the users.' Every other place I visit allows for links to work

Strife wrote a greasemonkey script to produce the linkification effect for Firefox users, and strangely enough it works in the Opera browser also.
It is annoying not knowing what is going on, isn't it?

Disabling BBcode for clickable links to URL's is supposedly for an upcoming update to the forums..........that's what Torley Linden said anyway. I think that was an out and out lie..........you don't have to disable BBcode for updates to a forum. It's for some unknown reason of which LL is reluctent to tell us about.
God I hate secracy for vague reasons. But I hate being lied to more.

updates are a totally BS reason, theres no thought behind it, every forum package uses BB code, so theres nothing to convert
they have had this down for a upgrade now for over 2 weeks, so they are obiously noowhere close to installing this vaporware
its irritating as hell, not only becuase it makes it harder for us to read, but go over to the scripting forums, its extreamly difficult to do anything over there becuase now we cant see our code with syntax highlighting
i know for a fact that they are incapable of doing any maintance on this website so i wouldnt hope to see this resolved anytime before havok 2
now if you will excuse me i have to add another reason to my already growing list of "things that linden labs do to piss me off" which was called "reasons i find SL fun" but i just had to throw away

From: Steve Mahfouz Yes, it is. I use Opera hence my irritation. How do I get that script ? userscripts.org/scripts/show/9651 is the url for the script http://www.opera.com/support/tutorials/userjs/examples/ is the url for how to install a greasemonkey script in Opera. Although it's only been a few days since I installed the script, I, umm, I .... I can't remember how I did it. I followed the instructions, basically. I seem to have ended up with a folder called Opera User Javascript with that script in it but I don't remember what I did with it. Here's a link with some javascript scripts marked as to whether they work in Opera: www.howtocreate.co.uk/operaStuff/userJavaScript.html

Ya spoze ol' LL is gonna change the forums to something like myspace or facebook or something like that, maybe even make a deal with one of the social networking sites? Or maybe make a SL-Zoho or a SL-GoogleDoc site or something like that.

Maybe they had to remove BBcode to make way for the new voice feature? Saving CPU cycles are going to deeper depths now, first ratings, now this? I begin to suspect SL has the ability to cope with 75 features, so to gain a new one, you have to loose another. Perhaps we should have a poll asking for whats important to keep? I'll open the voting: 1) A LOT less lag 2) Longer term stability 3) Core elements such as TP, profiles, inventory and L$, work continously 4) No more client crashes or memory leaks Darn, I don't want to get too ambitious.. so I'll leave it at 4

My thought in the other direction from these forums being converted into some sort of myspacey thing is that these forums would be converted into discussion pages in the sl wiki or comments in a Jira/forum mashup/smashup.
