Any way of checking/changing original account details - eg. name?

Hi there

When I first created my SL account I just entered a
random real name and address because I'm always wary of giving my real
details online.
But now that I am about to upgrade to a premium
account and probably buy land etc. I am just wondering
whether that matters, or if there is any way I can
change these details to my real name and address. I can't even see what name I used originally in 'my account'.

I don't think you can, no. You can change your address info in the billing info section, but the "Real Name" that you used when you signed up does not show anywhere, that I have been able to find. LL assumed you were completely honest on their entry forms, and so gives no way to change that.

If you want your Premium acount to be 100% legitimate, with your real name and address and billing info, you'll need to create a fresh account and start over.

Am I correct in thinking that name must be correct for any real money transaction to operate?
If so, creating a genuine account is your only course of action Semolina.
Hopefully, most of your inventory is transfer enabled.

As long as the payment information is correct (you can edit all the payment fields), there shouldn't be any problems.

that strikes a chord - I've had to change payment details with dealers and changed cards in the past. I distinctly remember being prompted for 'name as appears on card'.

I've had no problems with using Paypal to fund purchases of Linden Dollars - so maybe that's a good sign.

No, all that is required is for the billing info to be valid. The info that relates specificly to your credit card or PayPal account has to be valid. But that isn't tied directly to the name you used to sign up for the account. I know at least one person who used a completely ficticious "real name" to sign up for their acount, but gave valid payment info, and they can purchase L$, get money back out of SL, and all that. Their reasons were much as that of the original poster. Testing the waters with an un-known on-line entity (SL) and unwilling to reveal real personal info at first.

I still wonder why LL doesn't make that field something you can change. I mean, what if a girl gets married in RL? Her maiden name is stuck on her account forever? Sheesh...

I'm guessing that you probably could get it changed, but it would require manual intervention by LL rather than some automated form entry on a web page. You might need to make a phone call.

There must be some provision for doing this: after all, people do sometimes get their names legally changed, or they get married and take a spouse's last name, or (as per the recently updated provisions of LL terms of service) the original owner of an avatar may pass away and bequeath ownership of it to another person.
