1st question: Leave the group.
2nd question: I thought that bright red ment location still valid and faded red that the location changed. Not sure though.

I went to group settings, and toggled off the button to receive Group Notices, thinking that would cut down on some of the junk (I have one group that is very active. I don't want to quit, but I would rather peruse the group notices from the history when I have time, instead of being inundated with them on my screen, especially when I first log in.) Well, it doesn't seem to have worked. I am still receiving all those big blue group notices. Any suggestions, anyone?

Regarding group IMs, I find those easier to avoid, as they don't fill up a corner of your screen, like the group notices do. It would be nice to toggle those off, too though, especially when they are being used for a group conversation I am not interested in.

Anybody else have any input on this?

Princess,

Unfortunately, you're probably in a tiny minority if you'll think to go check your groups daily or whatever to see if any notices have been posted. For the most part notices should be used when something of highest importance needs to be brought to group attention. I use notices out to the groups I own *very* rarely.

I can understand that some groups probably use these to announce every event run (like the live musician's group as one possible example) and that would get to be a flood when logging in. However, short of appealing to the Lindens for a preference checkbox, I think your options are currently limited to receiving and quickly clearing them without reading and going back to peruse later, or leaving the group(s).

To be honest, yours is the first complaint about *notices* that I've noted, most complaints having to do with actual Group IMs flooding thier screens and especially during the weeks in which one could not successfully leave an IM chat channel when one had no interest in the conversation at hand.

To me, any group I belong to is a careful balance of the need I have for it, the space I have available and the irritation it might or might not cause me alongside fulfilling my needs, but then that is generally true of the acquaintances I choose to keep on my friends list (please note the distinction from friends), the items that I buy (especially the HUDS I use), and so forth.

One thing you might consider, since you noted the size of the big blue notices, is checking to see if an adjustment to the UI interface slider might help you with relative size of the notices (and everything else) that takes up our precious screen real estate. I ran with mine at 90 for a long time and I believe (though I'm far from home and cannot check) I'm at 80 or 85 now (as a % of normal, you can also make the UI bigger for those with vision problems, especially on higher res monitors). I find the intrusion of the notices neglible and often leave them sit there til I can afford to stop whatever I'm in the middle of to read them (cause I *will* forget if I close them out without reading them).

According to the Knowledge Base:
From: someone
Bright red landmarks are ones you've teleported to. They probably won't change to that color until after you relog.

Faded mauve landmarks are ones you haven't been to yet.

But I can tell you that it does not work the way it is supposed to. I have a TON of ones that I've teleported to, and only a few of them are red.

Actually, they've finally fixed group IMs so that a session can be closed (YAY). Open your IM window and view the offending group's IM window. Just click the small x in the upper right (there are two, one on top for the overall IM window and one just below it for just the session you are looking at). The session may 'leak' another message or two, so that you have to close it again, but that is just because of the huge group IM lag issue (which has NOT yet been fixed, if it can be).

If you want to look at the messages again, explicitly re-open the session by going to IM and choosing the "New IM" tab on the bottom far left. Choose the group you want and it will re-open the session.
