Since SL is so large and the number of users in the millions, it would be nice to be able to easily find persons with the same sorts of interests. Is there a way to search on keywords in someone's profiles? Or is there a nice place to visit where there are a lot of SL users that meet and chat over like interests?

I think the reference is lost on me, but did you mean to capitalize the word "Staff"?
