I am posting this poll because I think it is crucial that LL get a sense of the likely impact on the grid of age regulations as shown here http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/04/age-and-indentity-verification-in-second-life/. The question I am asking is as a landowner, do you feel the proposed regulations as mentioned in this post are likely to make you flag all your land parcels as Adult in view of the statement:
Landowners are morally and legally responsible for the content displayed and the behavior taking place on their land. and the likely consequences of this in terms of liability for the behaviour of others on land controlled by you. |

It is not the Mature rating for land that is new, it is flagging it as having adult content. It is not the same thing. If a land owner doesn't have adult content on their parcel, there is no need to flag it as more people will be able to access a non-adult flagged parcel than one flagged adult.
Read the blog to see what I mean. The Adult tag is new. If people aren't interested in adult content (porn I guess) they don't have to be age verified. |

Thanks for pointing up a potential confusion. I'm talking about marking parcels as adult content not sims as Mature. If you read the quote the clear implication is that landowners will be responsible for sexual behaviour taking place on their land which is not Adult Content flagged. Think about this.

Easy for me. I think sexual content in SL is silly anyway and I avoid it now. It will be a relief to have it marked so I can avoid it.
And if you leave your parcel unflagged, more people will be able to access it. Its like the xxx area in our city. Its marked and you choose to go there. |

Surely the new regulations are going to make people less likely to flag their parcel adult, unless you are running a sex business, you wouldn't want to cut off a high percentage of your customers.

I've taken the responsibility from the very beginning to flag the land and products as Mature, to prohibit minors, and make it very clear that adult play is going on and no one should proceed further unless they intend to participate in the spirit of it. This new verification check is onerous, unnecessary, and will likely prove futile in it's purposes, though I expect it WILL hurt my business quite a lot.

I have my parcels marked Mature at least half the time, because I expect people on my land to act like mature adults and don't feel like playing nanny. If someone wants to swear, or whip out a funny but not exactly "Disney" picture on my land it doesn't bother me as long as they put it away when they are done, but there is never anything on my land that would require any "adult-only" flag, and never will be, so that won't be an issue for me.

Considering I wont be able to verify my age (even if I wished to), marking my land as mature or adult would be a bit of a stupid thing to do.
If anyone is worried about what others will get up to while on their land, the simple solution is to put up banlines. Screw everyone else, we're being made legally responsile for the rest of the world while LL relax under the insurance coverage offered to them by their chosen verification service. |

Whmm [M]ature means grown up to me.. uncensored, travel at your own risk, watch your step, etc. I don't do virtual sex either and I think the twirling neon cubes depicting it are eyesores... but I don't want to support any morals police on my land either, I am mature now and will stay that way, I don't have any biz on my property, just a park. |

well my parcel isn't flagged as mature now so obviously my answer was NO. I may have to flag it as mature in the future however when i put up skins as I am making some, but I haven't decided how i'm gonna handle that yet. I can put a bunch of figleaves on the skins I guess but if i put up a demo there's gonna be nekid people running around so i may be changing the designation (not sure) or put that stuff in a different location or something..

I think you will find that more and more businesses will try and find ways to UNMARK theimselves as mature.. adding enough "nicey cutesey PG stuff" to compensate for the fact that they also sell adult content.

besides, use remote cam to shop on age restricted land incase it`s not bugged or fixed later |

The poll has a wording problem; the question asks if people will flag ALL their parcels; but why ALL?
One might expect a person could mark SOME of their parcels as having adult content but not others, depending on what the parcels have on them. _____________________

I'm trying to imagine how marketing adult material in family friendly packaging would ever be anything but self-sabotage. If anyone tried such an absurd strategy, they'd not only miss their intended audience, they'd get a lot of irate attention people who'd never be customers anyway. |

Contraversial, but...
05-05-2007 13:16
.. it's just as useful for removing underage players from SL as being a source of nearly all the griefing going on in SL. And the ones who aren't underage certainly aren't going to be doing it (nearly as much) if they think there's a substantial chance they're going to get caught at it.
I predict that we'll see one last hurrah from the big griefer gangs, and then things will die down to something more manageable when the new restrictions go into effect. But honestly - we've all been yelling about how unverified alts have been ruining SL, and now that they're going to be restricted, we're all yelling again. :/ |

My point is Suzanne that if landowners have public access land are they going to feel forced to mark it Mature/Adult Content in order to avoid the risk of sexual activity by others (and therefore out of their control) occuring on their land - resulting in abuse report/TOS violation and their being kicked out of SL (which LL can do to anyone at will) and thus their losing their land investments.
