Sorry if this is a really silly question !

Since the upgrade i've been clearing my cache almost in a daily basis (i clean it from the ingame preferences), today i was checking it on my C disk, in my browser_profile and i found out that i have 4 caches: Cache, Cache (2), Cache (3) and Cache (4).

I know i didn´t have all those caches before, just one. Is this normal ?

Why you have 4 i have no clue , But the fact they are numbered tells me they are copy's of the original ... how or why i dont know .

What i do know is that the best way to clear your cache is to do it by hand and manualy go to your cache folder and delete the content ( i leave the texture folder ... i don't know why :) )

Cache folder can be found in :

D:\Documents and Settings\your PC name\Application Data\SecondLife\cache

By chance Tari, did you ever use the "System restore" feature (Windows XP) to bring back your system to a previous state?

That may be the cause.

Thanks for your answers

yes Samantha i've been using the restore often lately (since the 1.15 my comp freezes a lot and its the best way to put it back again), so thats why.

Question, should i leave it or delete them ?

You can delete all those caches and cold reboot your PC after clearing the Recycle Bin, then when you run SL again, it will rebuit just one. Advise to defrag your hard disc daily, or eachtime you use sl... it pays dividends

If you defrag often it takes little time.

Am I being a retard? I search on 'cache' and the only one that i can find related to SL is in

c:\program files\secondlife\app_settings\mozilla\components

Is this the correct thing? Or is this something to do with my Firefox web browser?

Well i'm defraging it more often now, this week only i did it twice :) , i'll delete the extra caches, maybe it helps, and defrag more often.

Also i did a clean-up, clean registry and checkdisk lately, but still having an ocasional crash, maybe today's patch will improve things (and i'm in the recommended specs 1,2 G of memory, pentium 4, 3.00 Ghz, ATI mobility 9000/9100).

Thanks for your help :)

Nope, it's Windows being retarded. By default the ...\Application Data\... directory tree is hidden, and searches for files and subdirectories held within silently fail. Quick fix: in an Explorer folder window, click Tools, Folder Options, View, Show hidden files and folders - about the 10th checkbox from the top.

If you defrag in Safe Mode, it will work slightly quicker, but in any event, don't use the defrag prog that comes with windows... they didnt buy it and include its code because it was top of the range and makes life exciting.
If you defrag more often, it takes less time eachtime.
