Hi Guys,

Just getting to grips with SL at the moment and I've started to sell some tshirts I've made. Although I'm confused on the no mod no copy no transfer issue.

I obviously don't want people to resell my items or give them away for free, what should I do for the best?

Many Thanks,

most clothing makers do clothing at a no mod, no copy permissions level, this allows people to resell their clothing if they no longer wear it in the future but does not leave them a copy in their inventory. However some also do mod, copy, no transfer as people may want to set up folders for outfits which they can quickly put on. It is all choice but people will buy it if they think it's good enough. I personally like both but love being able to modify my clothing incase the shirt or pants are not where i want them to be (usually longer). So theres some input for you. Good luck at selling your shirts!:)

Heh, i thought you were thinking of charging for advice. That'll cost ya ;) But seriously, set your t-shirts to:

1) no-mod, yes-copy, no-trans: If you want to allow your customers to have multiple copies of your t-shirts (Useful for setting up different outfits).

2) no-mod, no-copy, no-trans: If you want your customers ot only have a single copy/instance of your t-shirt.

FWIW, I have a selection of items I have made & distribute as freebies. In order to protect myself and people in general I set the permissions to yes-mod, yes-copy, no-trans. That stops the freebie resellers in their tracks.

On the next owner section, if you uncheck the copy then they can only give or sell the original they buy from you. If you take the check off the the transfer they can put them in multiple outfits but not gift them or resell.

Some people prefer copy, some people prefer transfer, its up to how you want to do things and your customer input.

How do I set this one up as I need to have at least one box checked in the properties.

Thanks.

Ting, the default is no-mod, no-copy, no-trans. If you look closely you'll see that the tick in the transfer/resell box is greyed out. So for that permission set you need to do nothing.

The default is NM/NC/T. It's impossible to set no permissions on a single item. If you take away transfer, you get copy. If you take away copy, you get transfer.

It's possible to make a prim object look like it's NM/NC/NT, but then either the container is copy or transfer, or its inventory is transfer or copy respectively.

The default is "no-mod, no-copy, YES-trans".

Personally, for cheap clothes like t-shirts, I sell them as "Yes-mod, Yes-copy, NO-trans". That allows them to use the t-shirt in several outfits, crop it into a short-waisted shirt or a tank top, shift the color... but they can't sell it or give it away.

For expensive clothes (over L$200 or so) I default to "no-mod, no-copy, YES-trans", so they can resell their single copy, or give it away as a gift, but they can't keep a copy if they sell it or give it away, and they can't alter the appearance. HOWEVER, I will also sell someone a "Yes-mod, Yes-copy, NO-trans" version of the same outfit, or drop it on a designated recipient as a gift in either permissions format, if the buyer requests that option.

Whoops, I stand corrected there. No wonder I still get flummoxed by permissions!
