trench coat building question?

I saw people that made some trench coats and used a shirt to make the upper part of it but you can't open the front part of a shit like you can do with the jacket.. but they some how did.. I was wondering how they did that?

They might have made the shirt texture, with an alpha to simulate it being open. Having an alpha area in the front would allow you to see the clothing underneath that layer, so you could have the illusion of an open jacket / shirt.

If you download the SL Design templates and the Design textures, there are some examples in there that show how you can do various things with the clothing layers.

Edited to add - there is a 'textures' area a little further down the forum index where you can find lots of knowledgable folk who can give you more detailed answers on this sort of topic. :-)

and to reply to the topic, yes it is probably done using an alpha layer to create the illusion of open jacket
