I am curious has anyone done yet any form of threatrical production personally in Second Life?
How did you do it?
Did you hire actors, actress or other staff for event? What did you pay them?
Did you charge a ticket price for event?
Does or has anyone ever for event charge a ticket price for visiting a sim or land?
My friend was thinking this was bad ideal. What are you thoughts of this?
Any suggestions of how to do events, controlling traffic i.e limit how many guest or uninvited guest so that people don't pop up in during middle of event and say in middle of performance "Hey what's going on here?" in the middle of the 4th act of the play?
Promoting ideals and any other suggestions?
Just curious.
Thanks in advance

I didn't do it, but I know there was a ballet performance in Second Life.

It used a couple of tricks that might be relevant, such as having the audience at the edge of a sim and the stage and performers on the edge of the next sim across. I don't know if this would enable them to ban non-performers from the sim with the stage without the banlines showing up, but they didn't in fact do that, since it was an IBM sim..

You could put the stage in a parcel, deslect 'restrict spacal sound to this parcel' and only allow those in a unique group 'the actors etc' entry to that parcel? I assume you could use some sort of 'sound amplifier' system for the actors to reach the audience.

One way to 'charge' the audience, is to apply a cost to join a group, and only allow those members of that group access to the audience area/sim.

I'm part of the crew working on the Second Life Ballet production of Olmannen in IBM 9 & IBM 10. I'm the composer and up to recently have been operating the stage sets and audio stream.
  1. For the record, we're all volunteers doing it for the sake of it though there's no reason why you couldn't put all your performers and crew on a salary.
  2. Yes, we have the stage in one sim and the audience in an adjoining sim for the obvious reasons Yumi alluded to.
  3. The SLB production of Olmannen is free to attend and fully open to the public although there's no reason for you not to charge admission to your production. It's just another admin task.
  4. People show show up part way through the performance are asked to take a seat. If they seem determined to disrupt the performance, they're ejected and banned without warning.
I'd like to see more of a presence for the dramatic arts in Second Life. Second Life Ballet has received alot of support along the way and I can say for a fact that we received far more interest than we are capable of meeting in terms of venues offered, assistance and audience interest.

Go for it, the demand is there.

There is a great demand for any kind of entertainment that is not a strip club.

Good luck.

In fact, I would like to find street performers for use in some commerical events I am planning. The first time I had trouble finding any.

Yeah I am in the process of figuring out what we need to have working stage, enterntainment venue, one member talking about building scripted stage curtain, she also been kind enough to have built the most beautiful first stagehouse I ever saw. Last sunday we had our first live musical event, we had about 30 people. Not lot of L comes in for owner, not that I am doing all this for L but it really would be nice to have some of tier or my in world expenses covered.
My musical friend thought it would be better not to have land ticket price but I am torn land owners and the behind of scene people, script writers, prop scripters and builders would need to be compensated or even cost of finding specific animations would cost L.
Where is it come out of? So I am trying to figure out what type of budget I need. If I am going to use voice what will I need? If I write play do I need a director or special props to brings it alive? If I release something really good on play within SL how do I protect the copyright of this? If I do improv or comedy type performances are there going to be enough physical gestures and animations that actors, actress use to make it work.
If I want to go multimedia route, with live, video & music feds not sure how to I am going about that yet. If I go live I need voices that fit the roles. I don't use voices I need to use script language or find away to "mime" in sl. LOL
Thanks for responding.
