hello and help!

hi all im new to this 2nd life thing thought id give it a try after seeing it on tv. mmmmmmmmmm just a few questions, its seems you are having problems ive just spent the the last 2 hrs trying to get "in world" and still have no idea how to do it.when you login isnt your avatar suspose to come up? so you can change it? i thought i was doing something wrong,i was going around and around in circles looking for the answers to my questions only to find my answers through google. this cant be rite can it? its not as if ive just brought a pc and pluged it in today i do know a little.the last 2hrs was sooo much hard work and some of you guys pay for this? i was going to buy in ,but im not so sure now. please can someone inlighten me? tell me how to get in? as i said im new to this site so dont want to upset anyone just want some answers. cheers all p.s why is it soo painfully slow here 2?

I'm loathe to answer a question with a question, but have you downloaded the program yet? Let us know and we'll be better able to help you.

As for why the website is so slow, I haven't a clue, but would give whole worlds to know. It's not usually like this.

thanx for answering so quick yeah ive download proggy it asked me to do that when i joined, but ill check again to see if its there.

Just tossing this out, but it sounds like you have the software installed and you are trying to log in? I could be wrong, but I think the first thing you need to do is press the "new account" button, rather than the "connect" button. The new account button will take you to this web site where you can choose a name for your avatar, etc.

If you're already done this, and you have an avatar name and password, and you are managing to log in, but no avatar is appearing, it could be that there were 28,000 people logged on concurrently, and things are slow. Perhaps waiting a bit might help.

lol for a couple of weeks my dad kept emailing me wondering what the big deal is with SL, and I finally realized he hadn't downloaded the client as was just logged into the website.

yup , got proggy and yes im logged in .yes i waited ....... and waited....... and waited still no avatar came up it even says im logged in.

Assuming you already have an account and password, and have properly logged into SL, you'll materialize on something called Orientation Island. I recently took a group of 20 people into the world simultaneously, and at a low traffic period, and it still took them about 2 minutes to appear on screen. As the previous poster pointed out, when the world is heavily trafficked (and 28000 would be VERY heavy traffic), it wouldn't surprise me if it took MUCH longer for your avatar to be generated. My advice would be to log on and go get a cup of coffee while you wait for the avatar to appear. It WILL eventually appear, but when system load is heavy, waiting can be interminable.

And yes, I pay for this. God help me, I pay a LOT for this. Sometimes I ask myself why, and God knows my accountant screams at me for it, but everytime time I decide I've had enough, I log back in and find something new to keep me going. Almost 3 years of this now and although I did take a hiatus at one point, I'm still going strong. (And if LL is still around in 20 years, I probably will be too. Yeesh.)

One of the best places to go in-world when you need help is Help Island Public...lots of helpful people hang out there

cool ,thanx hows the best waty to find all these places? been told to go to shelter? and think i need to go to sand box to learn how to build? do these places come up on a map.i only took a quick look last nite for 45 mins after i sorted account.
