avatar goes airborn when standing up

I have placed a few animation objects on my land. Very often when I stand up after using one of those animations, my avatar shoots straight up into the air like a rocket. To regain control I have to click the fly button and then use pg-dn to return to the ground. Very annoying. It happens almost every time with a hammock object that has a veg-out animation, and occasionally with other animation objects. Does anyone know why this happens and how to stop it?

Sometimes reorienting a piece of furniture even a slight amount can get rid of that. I've had the same thing happen with different pieces or furniture myself, and just moving them a little bit helped. I had this one deckchair that persistently launched me into my pool everytime I stood up! Moving it slightly got rid of that phenomenon.

This is one of those times where the disconnect between real life and SL is hilarious to me: Launching deck chairs! Who woulda thunk it?

This happens because the pose makes your avatar collission mesh embed itself within a prim. This isn't an issue as long as you remain seated. When you stand up, however, what happens is the physics engine notes that you are not sitting, and that your collission mesh is inside a physical object. the force with which the physics engine pushes you away from the chair is proportional to how deeply into those prims you were.

The simple solution is to adjust the seat pose so you aren't do deep into the prims when sitting. The advanced solution (scripters only) is to make the prim phantom when you sit and have a timr to re-solidify it after you stand.

I have had this exact same thing, I even posted on it here... it turned out to be a script on an AV's shoes... it affected everyone on that parcel! We would float up and get wedged in ceilings and have to relog! It aslo happened in the garden e.t.c...
A fantastic SL helper came over to see if she could help, in the end the Estate owner came over and checked estate tools and it was the script as soon as that was removed, all was good!

I hope this may help :)

hehe I had that to happen once. I was laying on a beach towel and when I got up, it threw me 2010m up in the air, then dropped me. It was a fun skydive, but was strange.

The 'catapulting' force also depends on the size of the pose ball.

Oh, I've had that one too! One of my own campfire poseballs.. orbitted me once when I stood up!! ha, so while I was cruising up past 800m I tp'd home and then went and sat on the ball again immediately. Standing up again produced nothing but the usual tame dismount, so this sort of thing seems like it can be entirely random and I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with any physics since it's so inconsistent, just the usual SL weirdness.

Here we go again

Shortly after I originally posted this issue, the problem mysteriously went away for no reason. Everything has worked fine for the last couple of weeks, but now the problem just as mysterioulsy is back! It happens on 3 animation objects especially. They work fine one day and then the next day they catapult me into the air when I stand up. Sometimes I can regain control by flying and using pg-dn, sometimes not. Sometimes if I fly horizontally away from the object I can then descend, sometimes not. Once I even found that after returning to the ground and starting to walk around, I drifted up into the air while still walking! Is this something that I did wrong, or a malfunction in the sim's physics model, or what? I'm not talking about just being bumped into the air and then falling back down. I shoot up into the air and just keep going. I often cannot regain control even by flying. If I am indoors I get stuck against the ceiling and cannot get down.

SL is a great place, but if this keeps happening I am going to quickly lose interest.
