I was wondering if you could clarify my questions in red.

Basically, is the website correct? (was in Linden Answers, but they seem to have closed)

I ventured to Sine Island, where the owner was using alts to display his dances. Really cool use for them I thought. He is apparently planning on selling the program for multiple use alts.

My question is cost. He made the comment you were allowed 5 alts per team member. It doesn't seem quite fair that premium members are going to be paying the bills so someone can run multiple alts for free.

Anyone have an answer, or is this a gray area?

Actually, with the brilliant addition of unverified accounts on Linden Labs part (read sarcasm), all Mr. Doe needs to do to make 200 alt/bots is to create 200 free email accounts, thereby nabbing himself 200 free basic accounts. You are technically only allowed 5 alts per premium account, but unverified accounts are only linked to email addresses and the names associated with them. Since you can make an umlimited number of fake emails and names, the number of alts you can have is boundless.

Cost to clog up the system with 200 unverified alt/bots... $0.

Fair??? Well, whats fair got to do with it when you are pushing for as many residents as possible to impress the big corporations you are trying to get investment money from by showing them how popular your platform is?

O and you don't need to buy a program to run mulitple alts. You just need a machine capable of bearing the strain of it. Search the forum here for "multiple accounts" and you will find instructions on how to do this.

One individual is allowed one, and only one, account that doesn't come with a creation fee. Alts are never free for anyone (even if you're premium, you still have to pay for any alt) and since unverifieds can't pay at all, they shouldn't have any alts.

That would be the rule if LL actually could be bothered to enforce their policy, but in practice some people have a dozen alts and never pay for them.

An older resident might be able to comment further because I think at one time the number of - paid for - alts was restricted to 5(?) which is probably where that number comes from.

All it takes is someone who's capable of making up 200 email addies, they don't even have to exist.
