Hey Y'all ... before I get home and have a chance to get in-world and submit a bug report, I thought I'l stick a post in here to check and see if anyone else has experienced this problem. I've searched the web site, KB, and forums ... nada ...

As an in-world photographer, I save all my photos to the hard drive, do my Photoshop work, and UL back into SL. My problem is that I can take 41 pictures, saving to the hard drive ... no problem there. When I take number 42 .. SL crashes. I can immediately log back in and take 41 more, but the 42nd will crash me again.

I can replicate this at any time. I've tried it in multiple areas of SL and it happens every time. 41 pictures is OK ... 42 = crash

It gets old when you're in the middle of a 2-hour model photo shoot and you have to relog every 30 minutes. Even worse was when I shot an in-world wedding ... I had to relog 4 different times during the ceremony ... every 42nd picture.

Anyone?

Never had this problem, but then, I've never taken that many snaps in a row. Maybe try changing the method of snapshot at 42, then switching back.

Taking mass photos for modeling sessions hasn't netted me your 42nd photo crash. For me it happens every time I try and rename what the screenshot is named before i take it. Also happens if I try to change the local folder those pictures are saved in. If I just let the photos go to whatever name and folder SL wants to put em in and sort thru em later, i can take as many as I want.

That is "normal" behavior. It happens to all of us who take lots of pictures. You're lucky that you get to take 41 pics before you crash, most of the people I know crash after 10-20 pictures. This happens because your cache gets filled, and restarting the program resets it.

I guess SL is not the answer to life, the universe and everything.

But yes, I also find if I take too many pictures, I crash... although I've never counted.

Hmmn...

Hmm ... I wonder if I can purge the cache manually from the Preferences ... or does that require a relog? Something to try tonight.

the mice always know
and yes I thought the same thing about the 42

strange coincidence? I think not! hehe
especially with the problems arising today (granted not SL's fault but... still)

You'll probably be better off reporting it on https://jira.secondlife.com, especially since it sounds like the problem won't repro for everyone consistently (bugs generally won't get investigated without a solid repro).

Once again, the free accounts get screwed ... no matter how much we contribute to SL, we all get lumped together. From what I hear, submission through jira is limited to premium accounts.

Oh well ... now that I know it's a cache issue, I can manage better. My cache is already set to 1 GB, so I'll see if I can dump it w/out a relog.

Anyone can report on JIRA.

The only reason I suggested JIRA is because LL would most likely dismiss a bug report without a repro (assuming they even still look at in-world reported bugs) and JIRA gives other people a chance to comment in case they do know of one.
