Is is possible to create two avatars with one account? If so, will you be charged another $10?

Each avatar is considered a separate account, so technically, you cannot create two avatars on one account. You can, however, create a separate account. As of last week, you will not be charged $10 for creating a second (and subsequent) account, though you also will not get the 250L starter cash.

Lenny did they change the policy about only being allowed one account without paying a fee for each aditional one? |

Kiera, if you mean can you have two names in one account then no, but you can create shapes and outfits galore sharing your name. Tigro, I last night created a basic account after having two premiums. I don't know what the limit is. It was said that providing each account has a real email there was no problem but things can change at any time. _____________________

I registered my real details just as I did for my two premiums. I did not however in the time before logging off for the night, receive the promised email to confirm creation. I shall follow this up when I know more ![]() _____________________

If in doubt, ask. I submitted a ticket approximately a month ago asking about the $9.95 fee for alts, which is still mentioned in the Knowledge Base. The Linden who responded told me that they're not currently charging for alt accounts and, as long as you use valid information, there shouldn't be any problems. Since ticket history is maintained, if there ARE problems later on, I can always direct whoever it is to that particular ticket...it's like insurance.
![]() Btw, the alt in question had the same email address as my main at sign up and it worked just fine. _____________________

Site doesn't ask if you already have an account. The 9.95USD fee is gone long ago with open registration as is the sign-up bonus which would have been seriously gamed if LL had left the bonus in whiel opening registration. As long as you give accurate information (e-mail, etc) then there is no problem at all creating an alt. Note that LL does reserver the right to "limit" alt accounts. Last I remember LL stating, I believe the number was no more than 5 alt accounts. If, for some reason, you have a need for more than 5, I would suggest talking to LL directly for direction and options. My alt is months old, even going through the password change-up fiasco of a few months back, and is on the same e-mail as my main with no problems in all this time. ~Jessy _____________________

The 9.95USD fee is gone long ago They still wanted it in December when I signed up my first alt and it's still mentioned in both the Knowledge Base and Membership Plan info, so I'm not sure if it's actually gone or just on hiatus. *shrug* http://www.secondlife.com/whatis/plans.php _____________________

From SL's "community standards" --
Alternate Accounts While Residents may choose to play Second Life with more than one account, specifically or consistently using an alternate account to harass other Residents or violate the Community Standards is not acceptable. Alternate accounts are generally treated as separate from a Resident's principal account, but misuse of alternate accounts can and will result in disciplinary action on the principal account. |

OK, I still didn't get an email confirmation for the alt last night but just gone through again with a new name and yes, I have the confirmation email. No question about other account.

Now I kinda thought that an avatar was more the character that you were then the account. For example DaQbet Kish can be a cat, a dragon, a fish or a human and each one of those is an avatar under one account. My other accounts are alts, and they too can have different avatars. Set me straight please.

Set me straight please. you're right, in the context of SL, the word avatar is often used to refer to the set of shapes, clothing, attachments etc, and one account can have several avatars, but will only b able to "wear" one at a time, but somtimes people refer to the "doll" that has their account name over it as their avatar, regardless of what it looks like |

Also, inasmuch that each avatar you meet in-world represents one account, some folk refer to the account as the avatar. It's a grey area and many newcomers aren't sure of the terminology. Strictly speaking, my alt is another avatar in itself and she has a selection of shapes. Are these avatars?
