Could they not have a clause for First Land, in which First Land plots cannot be sold/transferred to other players, can ONLY be sold BACK to the SL Land Bank (and recycled to a new generation of SL newbies) and only for the original purchase price?

This keeps it attractive as a start for new players, without perhaps the speculation that ruined it in the past as they no longer have any incentive to profit. It's yours, at a low cost, but not to make a profit from. When you are ready to graduate to more ambitious land holdings, you get your original purchase price back and its recycled as First Land again.

Of course I am disappointed by the fact I arrived too late to the party to own land =/ I am currently renting an apartment as the entire land ownership seems beyond my grasp, and at this stage I see little other reason to upgrade to a Premium Account. First Land would push me immediately into an account upgrade.

sounds like a reasonable suggestion to me

in the past it wasnt a issue becuase you had to pay 10 bucks for each account, but nowdays make as many as you want and screw up everything

LL could have done something like that, but you see, instead, they decided to find a excuse and take the opportunity to make more money, by saving money.

Now, they have made plenty/enough money, that SL is open source ;)

i dont see how opening the client made SL money, you could do the landbot thing without it ... altho it would be abit harder its not magic to macro nor intercept a datastream

You misunderstood me, I meant the other way around. They have made enough money, so now it's open source...

my bad

but i see it as not making money as in saving money (if thats an argument) why pay developers when you can get desperate users to do it for free, they win win, continue to be lazy / totally deaf to the userbase and save money by not hiring developers

The phrase "LL could have done something like that, but you see, instead, they decided to ..." makes it sound like a definite "dead horse issue", is this true? I thought I heard they were still trying to figure a means to bring it back.

So I am not clear on the repercussions of Second Life going Open Source, does this mean ... what, there will no longer be a corporation owning the entire world and running it for a profit, and setting up incentives like First Land? LL simply becomes another tier-collection landlord for the mainland properties and eventually will have no interest/incentive to encourage account upgrades, and probably to boot eventually sell off the remaining unowned mainland parcels to SL land barons for RL profits? It would almost set the stage for an intriguing alternate-history socio-political evolution, though I am not 100% certain that as an assigned "serf," I would still be motivated to play ...

So First Land is definately, forever, a chapter in the past history of the world? Or I misunderstood?

First land is definitely, positively and undeniably dead, and will not be resurrected short of the Second Coming. (In this case, a currently non-existant competitor to LL appearing and doing right all the things LL does wrong.)

Where are all these "First Land" threads coming from anyway?

Does LL still have info about the program posted somewhere?

if this were the case, i would not have been able to buy my neighbors' plots and have the extensive 12,000 meter estate i now have. all of my sim would be a collection of single 512 plots instead of the larger, more open and beautifully landscaped plots it is now.

is this what we want ... small 512 plots as far as the eye can see?

I know how to prevent that and bring back First Land as outlined by Brash! Segregate the riffraff! First Land ghettos, woohoo! :p

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Yup looks like we signed up around the same time and there was plenty of talk of first land at that time even though it wasn't available anymore.

You are still instructed to search for first land when you're first going through the interfaces. I don't remember if that's part of tutorial island, help island, or the client help, but it tells you how you can and should search for first land. So every new player is under the impression that there is still such a thing, until and unless they are told otherwise.
