I seemed to have pushed a rather expensive item into the ground beneath my house and was hoping there was away to retrieve it without moving the house and digging into the ground. I also have a picture that is stuck in the wall. I used to know how to set the screen to wire frame, but I didn’t write down the key combo. What is the best way to retrieve these items?

CTRL - ALT - SHIFT - 5

will toggle the ground on and off.

Great thanks I’ll give that a try.
How about the wire frame thingy? Anyone?

CTRL+SHIFT+R for wireframe.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

How do you actually retrieve the object even if you see it in wire frame???

Wireframe only lets you see where it is. You will still have to position your camera to be able to select it. Slightly easier to do when you're in wireframe as prims don't 'bend' your camera angle.

For the objects underground, you might also try going into the CLIENT menu (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+D if it isn't on already) and "Disable Camera Constraints". This lets your camera pan underground.

Apparently, you need to enter edit mode and draw a box containing your object. Switching on 'highlight your objects only' is also advisable. Then you should be able to raise it with the appropriate arrow :)

Can't give exact key combinations, as I am not in-world now. But...

For an item in the wall, there is also an option to hide selected prims. So, select that part of the house, and choose that rendering option, and the linnkset hides, allowing you to select the item inside the wall. Of course, then the wall reappears and the selected picture that was in the wall becomes invisible, but it is still selected. Move it, and then turn the option to hide selected prims off again.

For objects under ground, there is a rendering option called "surface patch" which if un-checked will hide the terrain surface, allowing you to click on items under the ground.

"Hide selected" is very, very useful when taking photographs.

I do that too!

I think everyone should spend time learning the stuff in the Client menu. In addition to photography, it is incredibly useful for situations like the OP's.

Glad to hear it.
I make a point of turning off my ground at least once a month, then highlighting Invisible to help me remove any Foreign, Unauthorized, or Misplaced Objects on my Land. it's good for Keeping lag down, Removing any Malicious scripts, and generally Managing prims on your property.
