On this Copybot issue.

The one thing I've heard is shop owners are afraid of getting "ripped off". Copybots can come in and duplicate what they sell.

I can see where they might be able to copy items. But is it really stealing when these same exact "designs" can in fact be made by anyone with the know how?

Yes, it's really stealing. Any more questions, or are you good now?

If you know how to make them, then just go ahead and make them. No need to take someone elses', right?

And you prolly know how to fry a hamburger, right? So is it really stealing if you go into McDonald's and run off with the food without paying for it?

They are both copyright infringement (assuming the designs are copyrighted).

Just because someone is skilled with the tools doesn't mean they have the artistic flare.

The important underlying question is: How much can I infringe and have it still be fair use?

On a side note, SL's economy isn't so much about providing the cheapest product, but about having your products be easily found. You can sell inferior products for high prices and make more money with a hundred locations then you can with superior products at lower prices in ten locations. It is more about location then price & quality. If people are infringing upon your products, you need more store locations (you haven't saturated the market yet).
